PROTEIN SHAKES 🤓

👫So I was with a client recently and they were telling me about how they'd invested in some whey protein powder.

🤔She eventually asked me - "So if I start drinking a shake after my session instead of chicken, am I going to start getting muscly."

‼️Here's the thing. Protein shakes aren’t necessarily better or worse then whole food sources. The benefit of shakes is that they are convenient, they are usually low in carbs & fats and they are priced a lot cheaper than most lean protein sources when you compare them gram for gram.

🤔For some reason though people have it in their head that protein shakes are some magic muscle builder. Wrong.

🍗The only difference in eating 30g of protein from a chicken breast and drinking 30g from a shake is how long it takes you to eat and digest it. But the end result is the same.

❓So are protein shakes necessary? Absolutely not.
❓Will they make you big and muscly? No they won't.
❓But are they convenient and more affordable than constantly buying lean meats? Definitely.

🏆My verdict: Take protein shakes for the convenience, or because you’re struggling to hit your protein intake, or because you wanna look cool walking out of the gym shaking your protein around for everyone to see. But not because you think they’re going to magically produce gains.

✅Also be sure to incorporate plenty of whole food sources to ensure a balanced diet and to make sure you are getting enough micronutrients and fiber.

I am constantly switching up my recipe for my burrito bowl this time I used fajita seasoning instead of taco seasoning and it was amazing! I've had this for dinner two nights in a row might even do it again 💁🏼 PS queso has some pretty decent macros in case you're wondering.

This plate is easily in the running for world's best breakfast. I've never enjoyed a meal as much as this plate (maybe because leg day came right before? 🤷🏻‍♀️) Anyway, you're gonna want to make these sweet and savory breakfast tacos ASAP. Two coconut @sietefoods tortillas warmed on the stove. Top both was warm mashed Japanese sweet potato. On the left, I topped it off with @traderjoes guacamole and homegrown tomato slices. On the right, I did peanut butter with @purely_elizabeth coconut cashew grain free granola. This plate is loaded with healthy fats to keep my full and carbs for post workout. Definitely my ideal meal right here!!

My 6-year-old, Ford, can be a little awkward when he's trying to make new friends. (I think he gets it from me.) The other day at his little brother's soccer practice, he walked up to another kid + without so much as a hello or an introduction, said in a robotic voice "My Daddy calls me Beefer.". Luckily for Ford, he's really freaking cute. Know what's not in any way awkward? Fitting this zucchini fritter egg sammie into my wide-open piehole. How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


1. I mixed 1 medium shredded zucchini (with the excess water squeezed out) + 2 eggs + 1 tbsp each almond flour + cassava flour + a few shakes each of turmeric + garlic powder + a couple pinches of sea salt + some lemon zest into a batter.
2. Heated some garlic ghee + a little avocado oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat, then spooned a little batter into the skillet in patty shapes. Cooked a couple min per side, then removed to toaster oven to keep warm. Repeated until all batter was used up. This made six fritters.
3. To serve, I sandwiched a slice of uncured bacon + a fried egg + some mashed avo between two fritters. 👌🏼🤤

I laugh at my hands in pictures. They are usually cracked, dirty (from garden) & rough. I see so many pics all day on here with these pretty soft well manicured hands. Nope not me!! This smoothie is filled with frozen zucchini! I have to do something with all the zukes from the garden. I just chop them up and freeze them. I also added frozen cauliflower, @ora.organic protein powder, maca, vanilla bean, cinnamon, coconut shreds, and ashwagandha. And yes I put one of those raw chocolate almond butter cups on top!! Just got home from a long day of errands and prepping for Back To School and TV appearances next week. SOOOO TIRED! I am so hungry and it took all of my will power to drive passed Wendy's and not pull in to the drive through. Saturdays are for baking 💃🏼💃🏼 I made @lauraleabalanced fudgy black bean brownies and holy cow- they are divine! No added processed sugar and vegan too. You can probably tell mine are undercooked- if you ask me no self deserving brownie should be cooked all the way 😂I made these with tahini and topped with peanut butter. These basically count as hummus right? 🤷🏼‍♀️👍🏻

Feeling shitty today.
My joy for what makes me happy was stolen today.
Casually scrolling thru IG and begin comparing myself to the lifters that populate my feed.
Instead of the usual motivation it brings me, I found myself realizing how I don't stack up to them.
That my efforts have not brought me to where I want to be. Even my best might not be "as good" as their average.
Logic reminds me I am 10- 20 yrs older than most of them & that unlike some I am 100% drug-free.
Time to get my mind right and get to the gym.
Ensure I stay better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.
Grind if necessary.
My only competition is in the mirror.

Homemade, No Bake Peanut Butter Squares.

Ingredients

Bar:1⅔ cups peanut butter (or other nut butter)
2 cups mixed nuts1 cup pretzels (I use gluten free)
½ stick (4 TBSP) butter
1 -2 TBSP honey (optional, adds a bit of sweetness)

Chocolate Topping:⅔ cup peanut butter (or other creamy nut butter)⅔ cup chocolate chips (I use dairy free chips), or dark chocolate1 TBSP Cacao Powder (optional, adds a darker chocolate flavor)

Instructions

Place 2 cups mixed nuts in food processor and pulse until well blended.

Add in 1 cup peanut butter, melted butter, and pretzels.Blend until well incorporated.

Line baking dish with parchment paper. Transfer nut mixture to baking dish.

Scrape down sides to form a clean shape (this prevents sticking to the walls and makes cutting easier). Place in freezer while you prepare chocolate topping.

Melt ⅔ cup peanut butter, ⅔ cups chocolate chips, and 1 T Cacao Powder in the microwave for 30 seconds, remove and stir, melt for 30 more seconds.Pour chocolate topping evenly over nut mixture.

Place in freezer for 3+ hours to chill and set.After 3 hours remove from freezer and cut.Return cut pieces to the freezer or eat immediately.
