🥔White vs Sweet Potato🥔⠀

White potato got a really bad rap in and around the time the whole "carbs are bad" thing kicked off and somehow sweet potato was drafted in as the super sub. The bigger, better, orange potato that was so much healthier than the white devil. But is it actually better?⠀

Well, it depends? The one that's best for you is the one you like to eat. If it's easier for you to stick with your meal plan when using sweet potato - then yeah it's better. If like me you struggle to slice the bastards (need more gainz bro) or can never seem to get them crispy enough - then the white potato is an easier option. ⠀

The deeper you look at it - they are actually pretty comparable in terms of their nutritional profile. Sweet potato swings it when you get down to the vitamin and fiber content - but then again an argument can be made for the fact that white potato is cheaper and maybe even more versatile.⠀

My point is - the foods you can use to hit your targets while enjoying them are always the better option. Choosing sweet over white potato doesn't means it's "better" - the "best" foods are always the ones you enjoy, that fit your plan and give you the nutrients you need to be at your best. And when it comes to eating out - the sweet potato fries are typically all deep fried just like the regular ones - so not that healthy at all.⠀

Tuesday I spent about 22 hours waiting for, missing, and then sitting on several flights. It was all worth it in the end, but man! Did it feel like a big waste after that fourth coffee and very bland protein bar I shoveled down the hatch while going through security for the second time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Out of my hangry-ness, I’m pretty sure I snapped at not one, but two well-meaning flight attendants when they told me to put my purse under the seat in front of me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re somehow reading this, I’m so very sorry. Low blood sugar and too much caffeine will do it every time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It reminds me of all the times I hijack situations, striving to show up a certain way or fit in, and miss the connection I was going for altogether. My ego gets the best of me and I’m left frustrated and feeling icky...inauthentic.

Does anyone else feel like they can eat wheat in Europe even tho it makes you feel icky when you have it at home in the U.S? Maybe I’m being delusional and making excuses for vacay indulgences 💁🏻‍♀️, but I think it’s real. And I think it’s due to differences in farming practices in Europe. In the U.S. farmers spray wheat with glyphosate (the toxic ingredient in Roundup) several times, including right before they harvest it. Because glyphosate is absorbed into the plant’s cellular structure in order to kill weeds, the chemical cannot be removed from grains by washing, peeling, baking or brewing. So I think I might in fact have a glyphosate intolerance, not a true wheat intolerance. In recent years, a growing number of studies have found glyphosate in common foods, human urine, breast milk, and the list goes on. Disturbing to think about, isn’t it? The good news is that I totally enjoyed my fair share of croissants in Portugal! And didn’t feel bad about it 🥐 Let me know if you’ve experienced this too!

A vitamin is an organic compound and an essential nutrient that an organism requires in limited amounts. An organic chemical compound is called a vitamin when the organism cannot make the compound in sufficient quantities, and it must be obtained through the diet; thus, the term vitamin is conditional upon the circumstances and the particular organism. For example, vitamin C  is a vitamin for humans, but not most other animals which make enough internally. Vitamin D  is essential only for people who do not have adequate skin exposure to sunlight, because the ultraviolet light in sunlight normally promotes synthesis of vitamin D. While vitamin supplements are important for the treatment of certain health problems, otherwise healthy people generally receive no benefit from using vitamin supplements.

The term was coined in 1912 by Polish-born biochemist Kazimierz (Casimir) Funk, who isolated a complex of micronutrients and proposed the complex be named vitamine. By convention the word vitamin does not include other essential nutrients, such as dietary minerals, essential fatty acids and essential amino acids.Thirteen vitamins are universally recognized at present. Vitamins are classified by both biological and chemical activity, and not their structure. Each vitamin name (the word vitamin followed by a letter of the alphabet) refers to a number of vitamer compounds that all show the same biological activity. For example, vitamin A refers to the compounds retinal, retinol, and four known carotenoids. Vitamers by definition are convertible to the active form of the vitamin in the body, and are sometimes inter-convertible to one another as well. . .
