Gnawa is a kind of music came from Sijilmasa , an area currently called Tafilalt in southeastern of Morocco. It was
invented by enslaved race of people who came from African desert and brought it with them. The Gnaouina person is
someone passionate about Gnawa weather the music, dance or sing .
In fact, this is not just a music but it is a way to express their sufferings, which they lived when they came from South of
Africa to Morocco as a slaves bounded with ironic chains. Therefore, they created their own style of music to perform
their sad moments when they were slaves and their happy moments when they become free.
With time passing by, variant gnaouian bands were formed in several areas of morocco, the most interesting thing is that
they kept the original music without any new additions or effects even though lot of changes touched so many fields in
this area but they have been trying to preserve their own initial tools :
This is obviously reflected to the way they choose their tools, each one of it has a specific sign, and meaning as pictures
attached showed. What deserves to be mentioned as well is that Gnaouian band in khamiliya founded by zaid abou jaa
was containing 50 members . 1- The Drum and it’s like a hole because they were working on drilling of wells
2- The Hajouj and it’s a treadmill because they used to build ships
3- The Qarqab and it’s like the ironic chains which had chained by when they came to Morocco 🇲🇦 #everydayeverywhere #streetphotographycommunity #everydaymiddleeast #everydayafrica #unlimitedmorocco #dailylifeworld #outofthephone #jj_streetphotography #proudlymoroccan #moroccanplaces #morocangraphy #everydayafrica #street_photography #streetstyle #featureshoot #ig_street #life_is_street #street_photo_club #99percentlifestyle #everybody_street #hartcollective #southofmorocco #natgeotravel #myfeatureshoot #streetlife_award #ir_image @blinkdotla #streetphotographerinternational #lensonstreets @photopiacairo
