Ezekiel 36:26. Sometimes we fail to realize that our hearts can be hardened toward God even though we are believers. Even though God is constantly working in our lives, there may be areas in our lives where we do not trust Him or simply believe He cannot help us so we harden our hearts toward Him and refuse to be responsive to His spirit. Another reason we may have hardened hearts toward God is because life has beaten us down ,and bad things have happened to us. We feel that if God allows us to suffer, He must not really love us so we harden our hearts toward Him. Tragedy and suffering tends to cause disbelief and doubt which leads to hardened hearts. A hardened heart blocks our focus on God, makes us not responsive to His spirit and guidance, and hinders our ability to follow His will. When we have a hardened heart toward God, we should pray that God would give us a new heart by replacing our stubborn, hardened heart with a tender heart that is responsive to His presence and insight.
