You see them everywhere when you are in Bali. The making and giving of a Banten (offering) or Canang sari, is a selfless act; a kind of self sacrifice if you will. It is part meditation, part escape from the humdrum buzz of everyday life. It’s a gift of gratitude to the Maker and a supplication to the lower spirits that they do not disturb the living. 💝Balinese offerings not only take an enormous amount of time, effort and money to make-but by putting something of themselves into their creations, their creators in turn offer their energy and time to God. 🙏🏾
It’s really quite sacred and beautiful. It’s no wonder why the practice of Yoga fits in so seamlessly here. 🧘🏽‍♀️

I allow myself to receive. 💞

It’s easy sometimes to get completely wrapped up in the beautiful and rewarding work of service. We are meant to serve, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t meant to care take of ourselves too. 🤗
Are you guilty of giving too much? Looking after the needs of everyone else and forgetting about your own? 💝
There are specific practices we can do as Yogi’s to help open us up. Through the work of deepening our inhalation’s, we increase our capacity to take in more life, and increase the energetic of pran vayu. The force within that moves energy inward and up. We tap into that through the work of intelligent backbends. From here we can begin to become more open and begin to touch upon the light in our heart that can see no suffering. 🤟🏾
The Yogi’s calls this the Vishok Jyotir, and we are all capable of connecting to this part of us that allows limitless amounts of joy and contentment. It’s ok to be soft and open and vulnerable. It’s only then when we can become more deeply in tune to our innate capacity of unconditional love. And it starts with knowing ourselves fully and loving ourselves first. 💖

Who else is with me? 🙋🏽‍♀️ Top 8 ways I use coconut oil on the regs.
1) toothpaste (add 1 drop peppermint oil and activated charcoal) 👄
2)Pour onto a metal spoon, gently heat the oil with a lighter, I then add thieves essential oil, and massage my tired tootsies before bed. Boom! Hot oil massage. 🌶
3) Oil pull. Swish around mouth for 15 minutes to freshen breath, heal bleeding gums, whiten teeth and clear skin. ✨
4) Massage into the whole body before or after a shower, in Ayurveda it’s known as abhyanga, and is the ultimate way to show yourself some love and get ready for a restful nights sleep. 💖(Coconut oil works great for me because I’m a dominant Pitta Dosha and the oil is cooling to my firey nature, but Vata’s who are typically dry, should use sesame oil. Kapha’s will benefit from mustard oil to increase circulation. And jojoba oil is good for all types. Massage towards your heart, long strokes on the bones and circular strokes around the joints. Don’t forget about your scalp and holes in your face! 💆🏽
5) I add a few drops of cedarwood essential oil and make an all natural hair mask. My hair gets super dry from being in the ocean all the time so this saves me! 🧖🏽‍♀️
6) Mix with some lavender essential oil and cotton rounds and keep in a glass jar to use as an eye makeup remover. (It even takes off waterproof mascara with ease) 🐼
7) Cook with it! I always stir fry my veggies in coconut oil. 🥦

I used to think that surfing could be my only form of meditation, a moving meditation that I could do a few times a week at best. It’s definitely a special part of my life and something I love because I can find pure presence in, but I now realize the importance of dedicating time EVERY day to sit down and be still. Whether there is swell or not, I know how to get myself to that same place of bliss. Where I am calm, focused and present, and this work helps keep me centered throughout my entire day. My mood doesn’t have to depend on the tide 🌊

When was the last time you ate a meal completely consciously? Zero distractions. No TV or Netflix on, no emails being read, no social media scrolling, not shoveling food down your throat whilst driving, not even a conversion with someone else happening. Maybe recently, maybe never?! I️ know I’ve been guilty of this habit pretty much every meal of my adult life! Until my consultation with an amazing Ayurvedic practitioner @bradhay32 Since my yoga training in Bali, I’ve been doing my best to eat more mindfully. Sitting in peace, appreciating my food, tasting it, chewing it completely and finding gratitude for the nourishment it gives my body. It’s been helping me with digestion, slowing down the hectic parts of my day, allowing my mind to focus and be ok with just being present on one thing.
