With the freshening of our family milk cow, and a rough day getting rid of a little scour to get the calf turned around, I had to sit down with Tilly tonight to milk her out. I didn’t realize how much I actually missed milking my cow. It’s been almost a year since I last did it. There’s something about just burying your head in the flank of a cow, establishing a milking rhythm, being able to zone out to the sound of the milk striking the milking bucket. You appreciate that simplicity, that routine, that regimen of knowing what your purpose and requirement is each day. #farmfamilylife#iamamodernfarmer#mancowrelationship#babycowdodododododo#handmilking#dirtyhandscleansoul#nowhereelseidratherbe
Happy Monday! It's cool and rainy here. We are all sick, and have been for the past week 😷. I'm blaming it on those darn preschool germs my daughter's been spreading all around 🤧. This month I'm going to try to play along with the daily #gettoknowahomesteader tag! Key word: try 😊. Today is the intro and a #choreselfie. So hi! I'm Jackie. I'm a nurse and I worked all weekend long. I didn't get a selfie and it was really hard to get a good video- guess I need a tripod 😏- but I documented my chore! Every morning my first chore is to milk Bella, our dairy goat. There's nothing like having your own fresh milk on the farm. It's a leggings, slippers, and coffee ☕ kind of day over here 🌧. I'm excited to see what everyone else is up to today. I'll be watching from my couch 😉. #homesteadersofamerica
Is it really a 'Labour day' long weekend when the capacitor on your milk machine melts and your forced to milk your herd by hand 😫 Way to start the school holidays 😫 The only thing that puts a smile on the dial is playing with flowers by @gondwanajamberoo in my farm soap shop. So beautiful. So lucky to have this fab gal spoiling us in the valley with her native bunches.
I got to milk a cow for the first time today! Thanks to Mint for being so patient. I really wish we had more land (and time) so we could have some sweet jersey girls and fresh cow’s milk. I got to keep some of the creamy milk, some yogurt, and fresh butter.
