I'm on the fifth repeat and it's looking so sculptural right now! I'm loving knitting this rockhopper shawl. The two yarns I'm using were found in charity shops on cones. I just discovered a little label on the inside of the cone of the dark brown yarn, which identifies it as Swaledale wool. It looks like it's covered in cat hair but it's actually a natural fibre called kemp. Kemp is a weak, brittle fibre that grows alongside the wool and is often found on hardy breeds of mountain sheep like the Swaledales of the Yorkshire Dales. It's not generally a desirable quality in fleece as it resists dye and twist, but I love the texture and character it gives the wool! #rockhoppershawl#rockhoppershawlkal#wip#knitting#handknitting#swaledale#swaledalesheep#yorkshire#kempchat#knittingdetective#mountainwool#yarnlove#naturalwool
