Used in areas such as India and Syria, the haladie is a dagger that had a double-edged blade on either side of the handle. Historical evidence suggests that the weapon was first created in India during the 6th century. Each blade was curved, and was usually 9 inches long. Blades were either smooth or serrated, both variations forged to maintain extremely sharp edges. Haladie were often paired with shields due to their lack of hand protection. Some examples feature the addition of a knuckle bow or third blade. Adding a knuckle bow would increase the hand protection, and a third blade would offer another mean of attack. The haladie's design allowed it to excel at both cut and thrust. A notable user of the haladie was the Indian Rajput clan. Due to its effective use by the Rajput warriors, the haladie continued to be a popular weapon until the early 20th century.
