Long post ahead! Look at all that breakage. She had her hair bleached from over a year ago and it just fried her hair. We just chopped and it turned out super cute. Here’s how to prevent breakage:
•Try not to pull up your hair. Using ponytails pulls the hair and causes it to break. Even buns cause breakage if you use ponytails in them. I recommend to braid your hair! Braids are a good alternative to getting your hair out of your face and it doesn’t cause breakage. They’re also cute!
•Get regular haircuts! Now you hear this a lot because most people don’t. Your hair grows 1 in on average every month. If you cut your hair every 3-4 months you’re growing 8-9 inches every year. If you wait a long time to cut your hair it will keep breaking and it will break higher and higher the longer you go, making it so you might have to cut even more off to get it to a healthy stopping point. I cut my hair every 3 months because my hair is so fine and damaged it breaks very easily.
•If your hair is dry or damaged get treatments. I do a hydrating and repair treatment every 3 weeks on myself. Since my hair is bleached it will protect the hair from breaking from being too dry.
•Try not to blow dry your hair. Blowdrying is the most damaging thing to your hair. Because of the sudden temperature from cool to hot it causes damage to the hair. The wind blowing it around too causes it to stretch and pull causing breakage. Try not to style your hair as often too if you can. Heat from styling tools is also one of the top damaging things to your hair. I try to not style my hair as often as I can to help protect my hair from the heat. If you have to style your hair always use products.
•Use products. I would recommend leave-ins, heat protectants, oils, and serums.
Especially if you have to use heat of any kind make sure you’re using the recommended product from your stylist. Your stylist knows your hair and knows what’s best. If they haven’t recommended anything, ask! I put a leave-in and serum in my hair every time after I wash it.
