By ‘feeling’ the muscle, and steadily increasing intensity on good days and adjusting for the bad

But these people? Are usually very experienced…

Track your workouts, and follow a proven progression model to ensure sustainable progress.

Three additional tips: .

Have A Plan
When you enter the gym you should know exactly what you are going to do. Don't only keep your long-term goals in mind (lose fat, get bigger), but you should also have goals in-place for the workout you are about to perform. .

Focus on Form
If you don't focus on form, you'll probably be focusing on recovering from an injury later. Every rep of every set you should be focusing on the muscle you're working.

Leave your problems at home. Clear your head. Stress and worrying can have a tremendous negative effect on your workout. You'll be less intense and more apt to stop early.

Assessing your exercises | Filming for the win

I am a massive fan of my clients filming their exercises in the gym for not only me but them to look over.

A perfect plan is arbitrary unless you execute exercises correctly with good form and tempo.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Filming exercises will allow you watch them back and assess what is good and what needs work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The last two weeks I have brought back in squats to my training after a 7 month break as I had a knee issue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have been slowly building them up, focussing on a few things and just taking my time with them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week I filmed them but with the back squat one angle doesn’t tell the whole story so I filmed from three different places.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣.The side shot lets me see my depth and where the bar is sitting over my toes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣. The second shot from the front lets me see if I am drifting to one side which can be very common as you lean towards your stronger leg which can therefore pull on the other leg. It also let’s me see what my knees are doing and am I keeping them out.

3️⃣. The final shot I take from a quartering view so I can see a bit of both which I do for my heaviest set, which was 140kg for 5 this week which I was pretty happy with for only second session back but still lots to work on with form.

If you don’t film your exercises I advise you do and just in case anyone at the gym will look at your weird…well they won’t they are to concerned in checking themselves out in the mirror 😂.

If you haven't been working out for very long, or you've never had the good fortune of speaking with a fitness expert or trainer, you might not realise that when you break down a muscle, it needs time to #rest and repair itself.
It's important to give each muscle group a rest of at least 48 hours between workouts.
You may think this sounds crazy, but if you work a muscle group intensely and thoroughly, you'll see wonderful results giving it a full week of recovery time. Trust us, it works.
Don't be afraid to let those muscles chill out. Rest is just as important as the work.

An example of a good 4-day split would look something like this:
Monday - Chest/Biceps
Tuesday - Legs
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday - Shoulders/Triceps
Friday - Back
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Rest
