Salmonella. That's why. 😊 I'm not saying you'll get it, but if you're prone to infections then it's best to only eat your eggs scrambled or in some form 100% cooked (i.e. an omelette, in baked goods, etc) to avoid the possibility.

Started my morning reading a journal article and sipping on some warm turmeric and ginger tonic. And then a little πŸ’›appeared in my glass, I think probably because even the tonic sensed all the love I received this weekend after a truly horrendous week. Just a little warm water, turmeric, a dab of honey from @followthehoney and a shot of @vermontvillage turmeric ginger vinegar (a new find and favorite that I wholeheartedly πŸ’›). With the dairy-free craze hitting hard and fast I think we need to have a chat about dairy intolerances.

First and foremost, dairy is a valuable source of nutrients (including calcium) so unless you have a reason to exclude it such as ethically or tolerance-wise I don't recommend doing so (just like restricting any food group, particularly with the crazy high rates of weak bones which may stem from not getting enough calcium).

The prevalence of milk intolerance differs considerably across populations affecting as few as 5% of British and over 50% of Asians. This intolerance is typically attributed to the lactose component of milk (aka milk sugar). HOWEVER, πŸ†• research suggests lactose might not always be the culprit. Instead a type of protein called A1 beta-casein in milk maybe to blame.

HOW DO YOU KNOW?: If you get tummy troubles when you have standard cow’s milk:
1️⃣ Try lactose-free cow's milk. If your symptoms resolve then you've pinpointed your intolerance to the lactose. Meaning lactose-free milk is a good option for you. If you still get symptoms, give yourself a week break I.e go back dairy-free, and then;
2️⃣ Try A2 milk. If your symptoms resolve then you've pinpointed your intolerant to A1-beta casein that's present in most breeds of cow's milk. Meaning A2 milk is a good option for you. If you still get symptoms consider seeing your dietitian or registered nutritionist.

Remember even if you're lactose intolerant you can still tolerate small amounts of standard cow’s milk (50mls/sitting).

At the end of the day it is completely your choice whether you include dairy or not, there are plenty of dairy-free milks fortified with calcium. It's all about being formed & not restricting food group unnecessarilyπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

What is turmeric?
Turmeric is the root stalk of a tropical plant that's part of the ginger family. One of the main components of the spice is a substance called curcumin which has potentially healing properties.
