Encroachment by Mountains ??? Often we hear about encroachments by we the humans. We encroach other’s properties, foothpath, lakes and rivers, too. However, our nature of Encroachment is borrowed from the Nature itself!
Often it is seen that a river makes a way for herself by encroaching and cutting huge mountains and flows freely from the mountains. However, the Mountains do not take river’s encroachment lightly. In retaliation, the mountains too encroach such rivers.
This is a classic example of mountains encroaching the river. Here the Ladakhi mountain range is encroaching the River Indus by dumping their fine sand over the river banks. This fine sand is resulted from the strong winds cutting and erasing the moutains. The sand is finally deposited by the wind over the mountain valleys and over the rivers.
However, the rivers will not take their encroachments lightly. They too will cut down this sand deposit and will make a way for them. Funnily, the mountains will take revange of this revange. And the game continues... The huge mounds of fine soil is being deposited by the mountains over the right bank of the Indus (Sindhu) River. This encroachment is located at Gumri village, near the Zoji La Pass in Ladakh.
