Remembrance 15 years of #Gujarat_Genocide 2002-2017 #gujarat #gujaratriots #2k2

In February 2002, thousands of devotees ofRama (known as " #Ramsevaks " or " #KarSevaks ") had gone from Gujarat to #Ayodhya the behest of the #VishvaHinduParishad to take part in a ceremony called the Purnahuti Maha Yagna. On 25 February, 2,000–2,200 Ramsevaks boarded the #SabarmatiExpress which was bound for Ahmedabad. On 27 February 2002, the train made its scheduled stop at #Godhra about four hours late, at 7:43 am. As the train started leaving the platform, someone pulled the emergency brake and the train stopped near the signal point. The driver of the train later stated that the chain had been pulled multiple times, judging by the instruments in his cabin.

The train was attacked by a mob of around 2,000 people. After some stone-pelting, four coaches of the train were set alight, trapping many people inside. 59 people including 27 women and 10 children were burnt to death, and 48 others were injured. According to J Mahapatra, additional director general of theGujarat police, "miscreants had kept the petrol-soaked rags ready for use much before the train had arrived at the Godhra".Martha Nussbaum has challenged this narrative, stating that several inquiries have found that the conflagration was an accident rather than a planned conspiracy.Madhu Kishwar has blamed the "amazing distortions introduced by Congress and its leftist allies" as the reason why the facts are not widely known and accepted.

The victims were mainly Hindupilgrims who were returning from the city ofAyodhya after a religious ceremony at the disputed Babri Masjid site. The commissionset up by the Government of Gujarat to investigate the train burning spent 6 years going over the details of the case, and concluded that the fire was arson committed by a mob of 1000-2000 people. A commission appointed by the central government, whose appointment was later held to be unconstitutional, stated that the fire had been an accident. A court convicted 31 Muslims for the incident and the conspiracy for the crime,[5] although the actual causes of the fire have yet to be proven conclusively.

24 are convicted for atrocities committed on 28 February 2002, when a Hindu mob attacked the Gulbarg Society during the Gujarat riots. The Gulbarg Society massacre saw at least 35 Muslim people burnt alive and a further 31 left missing after the incident. #GujaratRiots #GulbargSociety #India

I can imagine such discussions in thousands of houses... Finally watching "Firaaq" (2008) by Nandita Das. The 2002 Gujarat violence is still fresh in my memory.

Narendra Modi... 14th prime minister of India, a figure of controversy during the 2002 Gujarat riots 🇳🇪

April, 2002. Long before media started bending over backwards for Modi.. Ethra kazhukiyaalum kayyile chorede manam povillada.. #lynching #gujaratriots #politicsofhate

In 2002, a man's picture went viral, his hands folded, pleading for mercy. He lived to tell the tale. In 2017, another man's picture is viral. His hands folded and bloody. He didn't live to tell the tale. The 2002 picture shook many people's conscience. In 2017, it doesn't any more. That is what happens when mob lynching becomes a regular thing. It doesn't prick people's conscience any more[Pratik Sinha, Alt News] --- “intolerance” is the wrong word to use for the lynching, shooting, burning and mass murder of fellow human beings. Second, we had plenty of advance notice of what lay in store for us – so I cannot claim to be shocked by what has happened after this government was enthusiastically voted into office with an overwhelming majority. Third, these horrific murders are only a symptom of a deeper malaise. Life is hell for the living too. Whole populations – millions of Dalits, Adivasis, Muslims and Christians are being forced to live in terror, unsure of when and from where the assault will come.Today we live in a country in which, when the thugs & apparatchiks of the New Order talk of “illegal slaughter” they mean the imaginary cow that was killed – not the real man that was murdered. When they talk of taking “evidence for forensic examination” from the scene of the crime, they mean the food in the fridge, not the body of the lynched man. We say we've “progressed” – but when Dalits are butchered and their children burned alive, which writer today can freely say, like Babasaheb Ambedkar once did that “To the Untouchables, Hinduism is a veritable chamber of horrors,” without getting attacked, lynched, shot or jailed? Which writer can write what Saadat Hassan Manto wrote in his “Letter to Uncle Sam”? It doesn’t matter whether we agree or disagree with what is being said,we will turn into a nation of fools. Across the subcontinent it has become a race to the bottom – one that the New India has enthusiastically joined[#arundhatiroy via Scroll.in http://buff.ly/2qL2APB] --- #india #india2017 #indian #gujaratriots #intolerance #gujarat2002 #jharkhand #delhi #mumbai #bangalore #chennai #calcutta #guwahati #goa #hyderabad #newdelhi #bombay #truth

Wonder how it must feel to be immortalised by something so horrific and live to tell the tale. Both these men met each other, 12 years later, in 2014 in Kerala. This news is three years old and yet more relevant than ever. It shows us that it is possible to be both. It is up to us what we decide to be. [Courtesy 'Proud Indian' (Fb)]
--- KANNUR Mar 5, 2014: Faces from the 2002 Gujarat riots forever imprinted in the nation's consciousness, met at a CPM function here on Monday. One was the face of raw communal frenzy, the other of sheer panic, helplessness, tears brimming in his eyes, begging for mercy.
Qutubuddin Ansari, , whose horrorstruck eyes pleading with security forces that he be saved from rioters, became the iconic image of the riots met Bajrang Dal "activist" Ashok Mochi, who was photographed in a saffron bandana baying for blood, waving an iron rod menacingly.
They talked brotherhood at a seminar titled "A Decade of Genocide". Ashok and Ansari met without rancour. They sang. They shook hands and Ansari accepted a rose from Ashok. A book based on Ansari's experience of the riots was released at the event. Seated next to Ashok on the dais, he said the feeling was amazing: "We are both Gujaratis, yet we couldn't have met like this in Gujarat. This is unique for me... Some years back, a retired Army officer from Pune apologized to me on behalf of the Hindu community... Today my brother Ashok has asked for forgiveness. It means a lot to me. Let this be the beginning of a new chapter in humanity... I realized what love is only after leaving Gujarat. Hundreds come to meet me but I interact with only those who have humanity," Ansari said. Ashok didn't mastermind the riot. "He was only a tool. I only feel love for him." 🔽 CONT'D IN THE COMMENTS BELOW 🔽 [Times Of India http://buff.ly/2qHLmmd] --- #india #indian #india2017 #gujarat #gujarat2002 #gujaratriots #kerala #CpimKerala #Communist #Comrades #Communism #cpim #socialist #socialism #keraladiaries #keralagram #keralastyle #keralaproud #keralajunction #godsowncountry #cochin #kochi #munnar #trivandrum #wayanad #delhi #mumbai #bangalore #calcutta #kannur

Despair constantly stalked the 21-room apartments allotted to widows and their children in a colony erected by relief-workers on the outskirts of the village Delol, near Godhra, for the survivors of the 2002 massacre in Gujarat. The spirit of the residents of these small homes and their sense of hope remained fragile even years after the carnage. A gust of memories, a boy’s quiet weeping, a girl’s terrified screams in her sleep, a widow’s unacknowledged loneliness, the barbed taunts of neighbours, worries about the future of children, the humiliation of continued dependence on charity – each was enough to obliterate hope.

Feisty, fierce, resilient, compassionate, impetuous and sometimes unwise, yet often defenceless in her loneliness, 31-year-old Naseebbahen Mohammedbhai Sheikh emerged as a natural leader in the colony. She had lost an incomprehensible total of 26 members of her family in the massacre, including her husband, her 12-year-old daughter, her parents, and almost every living relative in her parents’ and her husband’s home except one brother and a son.

Yet hers was the steadiest voice in the colony, one offering comfort and strength. “You have to now make two hearts beat in your breasts,” she never tired of telling the other widowed women, “one that of a mother, the other of a father.” Memories of a massacre
Naseeb and her one son survived only because of a chance of fate. She had been admitted into a government hospital in Delol for a hysterectomy on February 27, 2002, just one day before the massacre engulfed her village and villages in 20 districts of Gujarat. 👇 CONT'D IN THE COMMENTS BELOW 👇

On this 15th anniversary of Gujarat Riots, a well celebrated and discussed violence in India so far as for and against, I believe remembrance of the day itself counts in protests against State Sponsored Terrorism...! According to official figures, the riots resulted in the deaths of 2,500+ people and more were injured non-fatally, some were reported missing. There were instances of rape, children being burned alive, and widespread looting and destruction of property. The Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time, Narendra Modi, unluckily he is our PM now, has been accused of initiating and condoning the violence, as have police and government officials who allegedly directed the rioters and gave lists of Muslim-owned properties to them.!! Moreover, the Vishwa Hindu Parishath (VHP), RSS as well as many politicians, including Modi, made inflammatory remarks and endorsed strikes, further stoking tensions. Media described these attacks as state terrorism, and that they were not riots but "organized political massacres"

Even The United States Departments of States ultimately banned Narendra Modi from traveling to the United States due to his alleged role in the attacks.
.
As matured citizens of India rather than double faced politicians, lets take sincere attitude and action against Communal Violence and Intolerance in a way of what our Father Of Nation taught us.. This shall not be a cliche pledge but should be a way of life, an instance of character..!!
