Day2. It's Oleg's birthday. If you knew him, you would understand we had to find some non-touristic place that is the most difficult to reach. So... we found the most northern island, Grimsey, that straddles the Arctic Circle. It took us 3h by ferry to get there from dalvik. Some facts: There are about 60 people that live here, 2m birds, 200 sheep, 45 horses and no single tree on the island. Unbelievably the light day here is for almost 24h in summer and the shortest day is 2h15 min in winter time.
Grimsey's Cliffs along coastline are home to thousands of birds, including arctic terns and puffins (sometimes the first one attacked us). Puffins are magnificent vivid birds. We were lucky to hold one ☺️ guy who stayed in our hotel is a professional puffin-catcher 😂
The picturesque view of Iceland's mountains and fjords from Grimsey makes you hold your breath and get the feeling of freedom and peacefulness.
So that was fun, Happy birthday Oleg! #iceland #aroundiceland #landscape #puffin #birds #island #grimsey #freedom
