Goofy boy 😂 I put cones down to turn in front of when riding but he had other ideas... - Q: What’s one of your horse’s quirks? A: Rez likes to try and eat the clippers and can itch the top of his tail with his mouth, which is some crazy flexibility!
Ok so maybe not the most flattering angle to have me videotaped at, but wanted to share how we break the Standies for RUS. The first “ride” is literally just tossing a rider up there so they can get used to the idea of some odd human up there. I lay over his back until he shows us calming signals because it’s much easier and safer for me to dismount if he panics. Also, they can get a bit squeamish when the feel the legs on both sides of their body and the visual of me sitting up higher behind him. Remember, by nature we are predators and horses are prey. It’s important to go slow and wait until the horse is relaxed before moving further and finish in a positive place -never push too hard. Give lots of praise and rewards. . . . #breakinghorses#horsetraining#greenhorse#mounting#standardbred#undersaddle#babyhorse#horsemanship#ridinghorse#newskills#learning@loudmouthgolf_hq
