Both blind, both deaf, always rubbing noses. Adorable pic from @great_danes_bunny_and_rabbit
*Bunny was found in a shelter in Puerta Vallarta, Rabbit was found abandoned in a home after his family moved and left him behind.
Most white and so called merlequin Great Danes are genetically "double merles".
Statistically 25% of puppies conceived by 2 merle gene carrying parents are double merles. Of those only about half survive through birth - some are reabsorbed in the womb, some are stillborn and/or malformed when born, most are deaf and/or blind along with other possible neurological disorders that can shorten and impair their lives.
Sadly even though these facts are becoming more well known, greedy and irresponsible backyard breeders are still choosing to breed merles, harlequins & whites to each other. Although these special needs Danes can thrive when otherwise healthy and placed in the right home, every effort should be made to avoid producing them. All Great Danes are beautiful, being beautiful is not a good reason to breed. ☀️
