Last night at the bar a guy came up to me and said, "How much can you bench press?! I just wanna know if I could compete with you and your arms." It caught me off guard, and to be honest, it made me feel suppppper self-conscious for the rest of the night. While it's pretty apparent that I like flexing in pictures to show off them baby biceps that I've worked so hard for, and I'll never stray away from the #strongnotskinny mentality, I still wanna feel girly and confident in my body and with the way I look. After that interaction last night, for the rest of the night I found myself trying to hide away my arms with a whole lot of negative thoughts filling my head. I was thinking, "are my arms really that big?," "what if people think I look manly?," and "why didn't I wear something to cover my arms?". I let that guy's comment get to my head last night, but I woke up this morning and looked back at the pictures and said to myself "dang girl, you looked good." I had to fight for every single rep of that 1,000 rep challenge workout. It wasn't easy. I struggled throughout to catch my breath. My body is sore from a killer week of workouts at @burnbootcampveronawi. Every time I got to the full burpee 180s I thought about ending the workout. But I didn't - I pushed through and got it done!πŸ€— As liberating as not weighing and tracking my food was for the past day and a half, I'm actually super happy to be getting out the good ole' food scale & MyFitnessPal today. I thrive off the structure of macro counting, and definitely need it in my life to help me stay on track with my nutrition choices to help me reach my goals. Midway through this morning's upper body mini camp at @burnbootcampveronawi a lady said to me "your arms are jacked." I just laughed it off, because a) I'm an awkward human being, b) I was mad at myself because I kept failing to get past five reps of hammer curls to shoulder presses with the 30lb weights, and c) because I'm way too critical of myself and the progress that I've made.
Afterwards I snapped this pic and I realized that those baby biceps and shoulder boulders don't look so bad afterall, and I do have some traps coming out to play. I'm sure you all know by now how much I love #IIFYM! I eat things like Halo Top ice cream almost every day. I make it a priority to fit peanut butter into my diet. I don't say no to chocolate. This morning I went to IHOP and ordered a 3-stack of pancakes along with my egg breakfast, because you can't go to IHOP and not get pancakes.
I've been through the 1,200 calorie a day, "bro meals" only diet. I turned into an avid dieter by day, binge eater by night. At work during the day, my willpower was high - I'd stick to my chicken and broccoli, avoiding the staff area that was filled with donuts, pizza, candy, etc., then for supper, I'd have my protein shake to finish up my 1,200 calories that I was allowed for that day. A few hours later I would oftentimes find myself finishing off 4 scoops of peanut butter topped with 3 servings worth of granola plus chocolate chips, and it never seemed to stop there. It was a VERY unhealthy cycle of restriction and binges, and all of my hard work in the gym was being wasted by my moments of weakness in the kitchen. This all went on for far too long. Then, I got smart and decided to do some research - I started learning more and more about nutrition & macros, and eventually stumbled across "if it fits your macros" and it saved me. What I've learned most from IIFYM is that eating doesn't have to be boring or bland, or this cookie cuter plan filled only with chicken and broccoli. You don't have to deprive yourself to reach your goals. Instead, make the foods that you love fit into your macros.
I had to share that second picture, because it's so true & I do it too. I share the "good stuff" - this big breakfast, the ice cream & chocolate - but just know, I eat looooots of "healthy foods" like egg whites​ & chicken, too. #becausebalance

Decided to do a double bodyweight conditioning circuit workout today at @burnbootcampveronawi cuz I'm crazy. It was getting to the end of the second workout, I was gassed, & it was my 6th time doing full burpee rope slams with the heavy ropes. The lady next to me had been busting butt and killing the workout, which motivated me to push harder. Before starting that station I said "let's get 20" & that's exactly what we did, ending with a huge double high five.
I love my gym. It's not about being the best; it's about being better than you were yesterday while surrounding yourself with women who will challenge you, motivate you, and celebrate with you.

100% honest - I've really been struggling these last few days. Some very ugly binge eating behaviors re-emerged Sunday & last night and I didn't even have the desire to get to @burnbootcampveronawi - my happy place. It was like I was in the deep end with a 100lb weight tied around my ankles; I was going down fast.

I knew I needed to take action before spiraling out of control. I took my lunch break today to refocus my mind, reevaluate my goals, and remember my why. I hit the gym tonight, cranked up the music, and lifted heavy. I took control and untied that 100lb weight, reminding myself that I know how to swim. Life is tough, but I'm tougher. After a set of heavy deads tonight a guy came up to me and said "holy crap, I haven't seen you in a while - you got strong." Stronger than my excuses.

GUYS!!!!! Huge non-scale victory coming attcha.

Last year these shorts were my go-to. They're high waisted so they sucked me in & they're long enough that they covered the booty and tried to hide some of the thunder thighs. Last year at this time I weighed about 5 pounds less, so I packed these shorts just assuming they'd fit. Guess who was wrong!!! Just goes to show that weight doesn't matter #screwthescale Body recomposition is where it's at. I may weigh 5 pounds more than last year, but my body fat % is a whooooole lot less and you better believe I've put some muscle on, too. I'll always choose being strong over skinny, and I'll take being 5 pounds more if it means my clothes are this much looser! #awwwwyeah

Dieting down and being in a calorie deficit is tough - mentally and physically.

For the past ten weeks I've been EXTREMELY diligent with my nutrition, weighing out and tracking all of my food, as well as sticking to my moderate fat loss macros from @avatarnutrition. The pounds, inches, and body fat have all decreased by quite a lot in the last 10 weeks (trusting the system works), but this past week my body really took a hit. My energy levels were low. I was hungry all the time. I was moody - more-so than usual πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I could tell that my body was fighting me, saying "yo girl, feed me." I'm not in poverty macros by any means, but I'm currently sitting ~500 cals lower than maintenance and after ten weeks of dieting I could feel it.
I hate the saying "cheat meal" because that implies you're doing something wrong, so instead I'll use the term "refeed" for what last night was. Yesterday​ by 3pm I had already maxed out on my macros, and I was still hungry. My body was fighting me hard. So, I ate pizza, and quite a bit of it, if I'm being completely honest. I also had some garlic bread and trail mix. I'll definitely be marking non-compliant during this week's weigh-in, and that's A-OK. Why? Because I woke up this morning feeling good. I felt energized & ready to take on the day. I felt strong during my warm-up run. I got a good full body workout in before today's race starts. I even got 3 pull-ups under the grandstands!

Moral of the story: listen to your body. Work with it, not against it. I don't like wearing shorts.

My thunder thighs jiggle when I walk.
I've got a whole lot of scars from my four knee surgeries, two big burns from accidentally running into the very hot dragster header, and some big ole' calves.
My big booty makes it hard for me to find shorts that actually fit properly.

I don't love my legs, but I'm working on accepting them & in order to do that, I've got to go out of my comfort zone and wear the damn shorts. I promised to always be transparent with this account, so here it is: last night I was about 2 seconds away from having a binge eating episode. My macros were topped, but I went to the cupboard anyways and got out the jar of peanut butter, the m&m's and a bag of granola. In the past, it's that combination that would always start it, but it would never end with just that, and at least 1000 calories later I'd be feeling disgusted and sorry for myself. Last night I didn't let that happen - I forced myself to put away the trigger foods & left the kitchen.
I'll admit, it hasn't been the best week for me. I've been feeling a bit "off," haven't been sleeping the greatest, and my workouts have been average, but through all of it, I was able to stay strong last night & that's a HUGE victory in itself.
