Yesterday was very relaxed.
After sleeping on the floor of the rec centre in Scotts Head i set off down the road to Carpe Diem Beach. The bushland was cool and fragrant in the early morning sunrise. The bird life was vibrant and sounded amazing.
When i hit the beach it was close to high tide but the soft sand wasn't too bad after a higher night tide.
At Grassy Head i was totally drenched in sweat and craving sugars so i caved and bought a cola. The owner of the caravan park gave me another when she found out what i'm doing. Thank you. It took both cans to stop feeling dizzy and fatigued.
The walk down the south side of Grassy Head to the Stuarts Point footbridge was beautiful.
I came across a massive log, the length of a greyhound coach, washed up and wondered how long it had been travelling and from where. It would surprise you how many submerged hazards are out there like this and lost shipping containers.
In the afternoon i continued walking to Fishermans Reach, snacking on roadside lillypilly fruit, and stayed with Heather and Bob. They have an amazing riverside property which extends back through 3 distinct ecosystems including some rainforest, which we walked through before the mozzies became too active.
I slept well but my body is increasingly telling me to rest.
With all the assistance i'm given with river crossings and walking stronger on my ankle than anticipated i am nearly a week ahead of schedule.
Hopefully i won't need the spare days for anything more than rest and maybe remedial massage.
When i get to my parent's in Bonny Hills i need someone to look at my ankle and explain the causes and prevention of the pain i have 24/7. It keeps me awake and wakes me through the night. I think the plate on the fibula isn't as flexible as bone sending sharp pains into my foot and leg and the tibia is about 5mm out causing early arthritis. The swelling has been worse than normal.
I plan to cross the Macleay River to South West Rocks this morning. No idea how far i will get tonight but the outgoing lowtide and bright moon will be pleasant beach walking if the forecast rain dissipates.
