My original topic was just talking about Hurricane Harvey in general but this time I went more in depth with it and researched the damages and what is currently happening. Hurricane Harvey stood out to me because it was the worst storm recorded in history. My cousin and her family are in Texas, they weren't where it was affected but they were still there and used social media to let us know what was currently happening. Hurricane Harvey, which was a very disastrous storm, caused people to lose their homes and jobs and were left with nothing. People are currently living in shelters, hotels, or mobile homes, wherever the government allows them to use as temporary homes. According to an article in The New York Times, the Texas department of public safety counted nearly thirty-five thousand people in about two hundred- forty shelters. They have the essentials to stay alive but are stressing over money, deciding what their next move will be, whether to stay or to move. Cities were underwater, over sixty thousand buildings destroyed or damaged, which will take years to rebuild. The hurricane caused distress, many people were in need of being rescued or needed help, which was gladly given by many helpers. Hospitals in Texas were closed or evacuated but helped during the hurricane, trying to evacuate, rescue and get medical attention ASAP to those in need. Hurricane Harvey, as disastrous as it was, definitely brought out the good in people and showed certain people's true colors.
