Is it a good idea to run a marathon in June after it’s been the hottest days in this region for 129 years? Is it also a good idea to think you can run it when you have to wake up 3:30 a.m. because you have to drive there first? Maybe not. But it’s always a great idea to travel with the most amazing running crew ever! And the race was unique for me. We signed up for different distances (10/21/42k) and I started with @dieter_blette at an old sun observatory in Goseck, Saxony-Anhalt, which is almost 7.000 years old. The starting shot was given my Waldemar Cierpinski, two-time marathon winner for the GDR in the Olympic Games in Monteal 1976 and Moscow 1980 with whom we had to take a picture of course! The track was stunning. We passed a beautiful wine-growing area and especially Freyburg impressed us the most. If you had had the time, you could have read all the signs teaching you about that topic. However, my body tried to trick me and wanted me to give up ALL THE TIME. It started with dizziness, followed my fake indigestion, cramps and, lastly, by swelling of my arms, hands and fingers. Never had I experienced such a reaction of my body during a marathon before. Until then it had only been a mind- and leg thing for me. I am so happy that I was accompanied by a great running friend all along. The last 3k were the hardest but we were well received my the rest of the crew who had waited for us in Nebra, where the Nebra Sky Disc was found, for a looong time. Thank you all for that impressive day!
