Are you a good teacher? I’d like to think that I am. But don’t we all think that? Is it true or is there just a tremendous amount of pressure and stigma to avoid being the ‘bad’ teacher. We have all had them, or been accused of being one. Or we are being afraid of being labelled as one during an evaluation.
So I push myself to be a good teacher. I know I can’t be all things to all people. But I deserve to hold high standards for myself as well as my students. I treat everyday as though it were an evaluation day. I didn’t plan a fancy lesson for my last evaluation just a typical lesson because I want to know that my average lessons are worthy of a passing grade from a fair and reasonable evaluator.
But being a good teacher doesn’t mean hours and hours of prep and planning. I use inquiry based learning, differentiated instruction and community building to help me strike a work life balance that works for me.
