I’ve spent the better part of today thinking about what to say on this, the fifth anniversary of a tornado that forever changed my life and maybe changed yours too.
I’ve thought about the creepy weather feeling of that day; about the harrowing news coverage while @kocodamonlane called out streets and stores by name. I thought about driving as far as I could and then having to walk to check on friends. I thought about the overwhelming urge to just DO something to help my neighbors.
You probably know the rest of the story — turns out a bunch of friends and even strangers were feeling the same way and before the week was out, more than 10,000 of us would show up to lend a hand. But here’s the part you might not know:
Serve More is still working! Not just on that one disaster, no. We’re building a force of #GoodNeighbors to give help to those who need it after disaster but also to work for renewed homes and neighborhoods year-round. Together, we can make sure that no Neighbor suffers alone.
I need you. Looking ahead to the next five years of connecting people who need help with people who want to give help, will you launch a Facebook Fundraiser today? It’ll help us raise a little cash and it’ll be your way of being a Good Neighbor. Start here: servemore.co/fundraiser
