$2.2b Arms Deals: Dasuki To Call Jonathan As Witness
.
.

Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo #Dasuki, who is on trial for alleged mismanagement of $2.1billion arms funds, would like former President #GoodluckJonathan to be his witness, it was learnt yesterday. .
.

Dr. Jonathan has faulted the charges against Dasuki, claiming that the ex-NSA could not have stolen about $2.2billion votes for arms. “We bought warships, we bought aircraft, we bought lots of weapons for the army,” he said in a recent interview at the Oxford Union in the United Kingdom. .
.

Speaking with The Nation correspondent, Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN), the ex-NSA’s counsel, said Dasuki wanted Jonathan to testify in court.Raji said: “It will be desirable for Jonathan to testify for the ex-NSA. It will throw greater light into grey areas. And it will serve the interest of Justice. It will be fantastic for him to go to court to testify. #Dasuki is an agent of a disclosed and known principal.” .
.

Another member of the legal team said: “With what Jonathan said in #London, the only logical thing for him to do is to see it through.“We want Jonathan to follow-through. If he backs out, it will be bad.”But, in Raji’s view, a political solution will be better than trial because of the “characters involved”. .
.

He said: “But, frankly speaking, I pray for a political solution to the problem because of the characters involved.“Both the accused and the government should embrace a political solution to the problem.”Asked if Dasuki is ready for political solution, he added: “Why not? He is. .
. ”I believe the President is very sincere. He wants to reorganise #Nigeria and he deserves the support of all.“With a political solution, Mr. President will be in good stead to overcome unnecessary distractions in order to succeed.“I pray that everybody will key into his vision and the economic challenges facing the nation.”
.
.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said Dasuki’s defence team was banking on Jonathan’s testimony. The source added: “So far, we have secured the consent of Jonathan to appear in court for Dasuki. This will make the trial worth it.”

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the death of the second president in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, Umaru #MusaYarAdua in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Until his passing away that morning, Nigeria went through one of the most tense political periods in its existence with controversy after controversy surrounding his illness, the refusal of his close associates to transmit power to his then Vice President #GoodluckJonathan, the “doctrine of necessity” that the National Assembly had to pass in order to make Jonathan the Acting President, his being snuck back into the country and so on and so forth.

The tension was so palpable that rather than the country grieve him upon his death, it heaved a sigh of relief. It was such a situation that many Nigerians swore “never again” that a cabal will hold the entire nation hostage on account of one man.

Today, we find ourselves in a similar situation with President Muhammadu Buhari, albeit much better managed. Besides the fact that both men hail from Katsina State, there are a lot of parallels between their situations.
First, like Yar’Adua, the exact illness that is afflicting President Buhari is a closely-guarded secret. Also, the Presidency and other top government officials is unable to get its script right regarding his illness – when one official says the President is hale and hearty, the very next one contradicts him by saying the President is ill and in need of rest. It must have been a shame when the President himself said he had never been so ill since he was a young man and even revealed that he had undergone blood transfusions.

This leaves the President with one option: resignation.

This was the very advice that he gave late President Yar’Adua in 2010 to “resign honourably if his health can no longer carry him or tell Nigerians the true position of his health so that they can evaluate.” While the passion President Buhari has for Nigeria is undeniable, the nation is much bigger than any one person that it should be held to ransom in such a manner. It is only proper that President Buhari let go of the reins of government so he can focus on nursing himself back to health.

Reps order banks to unblock Patience Jonathan’s accounts

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has directed six commercial banks to free accounts operated by former first lady, Patience Jonathan, PremiumTimes reports.

The committee chaired by Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (Abia-PDP), gave the directive on Tuesday in Abuja at a hearing on a petition by Mrs. Jonathan. The affected banks are Union Bank, First Bank, EcoBank, Diamond Bank, Fidelity Bank and Skye Bank.

EFCC had directed the banks to freeze the accounts over allegations of corruption in the sources of the funds. But, the committee deplored the action, saying the bank could only take such decision if EFCC proved that it had obtained a court order to that effect.

The committee has given Ibrahim Magu, the EFCC acting Chairman, up to October 4 to appear before it or have arrest warrant issued against him.

What a shame!!!!! Its ok to get paid for a job....its gracious to get paid for the right reason(s). Celebrities have the right to vote....you vote for a candidate based on their views and beliefs

I still have zero respect for all the Nigerian celebrities who campaigned for #GoodluckJonathan for their lack of insight just for a few (...ok maybe alot) of dollars...no matter how pretty and handsome they are.

This is the first look of the front cover of the much talked about book, On a Platter of Gold – How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria, by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi. The book generated huge attention last week when it was revealed that it would be released in October, prompting some commentators to conclude it would be an exposure of the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Mallam Abdullahi served under the Jonathan administration for about three years and the expectation is that he would have inside details about the administration. According to the press statement announcing the book last week: On a Platter of Gold is part history, part political thriller, which answers many of the often-asked questions about Jonathan’s incredible rise to the highest political office in the land and his unprecedented electoral defeat in 2015.’’ The title of the book has also led many to suggest that it would not be complimentary to the former President who fortuitously rose to power in 2010 after the death of President Umaru Yar'Adua. In reality however, the title of the book may have been inspired by the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan herself. While clarifying her rift with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, in 2013, Mrs Jonathan stated that the Jonathan presidency was an opportunity that fell to the South-South on a platter of gold. “The presidency is an opportunity that fell unto us on a platter of gold. We shouldn’t throw it away. We have had people that contested from this region but didn’t win. We didn’t fight, we didn’t pay. God willed it to us so we shouldn’t use politics to fight one another or destroy our kingdom”, Mrs. Jonathan had declared. #OnAPlatterOfGold #PlatterOfGoldNG #GoodluckJonathan #Politics #Nigeria #GEJ #Books #BolajiAbdullahi

I fought Yar’Adua And He’s Dead, I Fought With Jonathan And he’s In Otueke- El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has sounded a chilling note of warning to political opponents stating that he’s gone up against two former Presidents and came out on top.

Speaking at an APC Kaduna statkeholders’ forum, the governor said that he went up against the Late Umaru Yar’Adua and he is no more and against Goodluck Jonathan who was voted out of power.

He said this in the midst of a crisis within the APC party in Kaduna where it seems Sen. Shehu Sani and some others are coming together to form a formidable opposition to El-Rufai. “I had fought with two presidents,” Mr El-Rufai said “Umaru Yar’Adua ended in his grave, while President Goodluck Jonathan ended in Otueke.” “Let us forget our differences and work for the development of the party. If you are not willing to stop the fight, you should know that I am a dogged fighter,” he said.

He also reportedly went down on his knees asking for forgiveness for anything he might have done wrong, but also noted that it’d be the last time he’d do so. “I implore you to tell me the wrong I did to you and I will apologize. But if it goes beyond today, I will never tender apology,

Boko Haram: “Jonathan Thought It Was A Ploy”- Obasanjo

A former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken out on how another former President, Goodluck Jonathan thought the threat of Boko Haram was a ploy.

Obasanjo said that Jonathan was of the belief that Boko Haram was a creation of the North to stop him from being President and therefore he didn’t pay proper attention to it.

He said this in an interview with the BBC in which he said that even the kidnap of the Chibok girls was not believed by the President at the time and therefore the drive to rescue them came late.

He said; “I went out in 2011 to Maiduguri. I took great risk to find out what is really happening. Boko Haram, do they have grievances, if they have grievances, what are their grievances and I brought all that to Jonathan. “Jonathan didn’t believe that Boko Haram was a serious issue. He thought that it was a device by the North to prevent him from continuing as president of Nigeria which was rather unfortunate.” The former President went on to say; “Even when Chibok girls were abducted, it took a while for the government to believe. Now if that is the situation, you can understand why the right attention was not paid to the issue of Boko Haram when it should have been paid.” #goodluckjonathan #jonathan #obasanjo #chibokgirls #chibok #bokoharam #terrorism #terrorist #heraldnews #naija #nigeria

Na With Conscience I Take Lead Naija- #GoodluckJonathan

Before-before president of Naija, Goodluck Jonathanyarn dis tori for World Peace Summit.

Make una read wetin im yarn “my political ambition is not worth the blood of anybody”, added that it was the major reason why he decided to concede defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 presidential election. “I can confidently say that in all my public life, I was inspired to lead by conscience. This is in agreement with my personal philosophy which I first proclaimed while running for the office of the governor of my home state Bayelsa in 2006, and re-echoed when I ran for the office of the president of Nigeria in 2011 and 2015,” he said. “Ever since I said that in November of 2006 in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State, I have always lived by it. This philosophy informed my decision to concede the 2015 presidential election, even while the results were still being collated.” “In Nigeria, there were 10.5 million (about 15% of the population) out of school children who were of school age, going by UNICEF figures, as at the time I became president,” he added. “Over 80% of these children for which majority are known as Almajiri came from the northern part of Nigeria, where I recorded the least votes in the elections I contested. “Knowing the value of education, I could see that the ugly situation was limiting the opportunities of these children and negatively affecting the development of my country. That was why my administration decided to build 165 Almajiri Integrated Model Schools which combined both western and Islamic education in its curricula.” “hope for a better tomorrow.” “The conference gave both the young and old the opportunity to exhaustively discuss and agree on the issues that agitated their minds on the workability of Nigeria’s federal structure,” he added. “I believe the recommendations of this confab, if implemented, would go a long way in solving Nigeria’s structural problems.”
