BAD HAIR DAY ALERT! Brush Jewel Beetles are just breathtakingly beautiful! Can you believe that the immature beetles of the Buprestidae family can take up to 35 years to complete their development? Mind. Blown.... It was such a surprise find whilst negotiating our way between the vindictive Lycium bushes... we found these jewels busily enjoying the sun whilst passing on the genes... the spikes of waxy hairs on this species is bright orange/red and yellow - this type of aposematic colouration normally wards off predators by warning them of foul tasting or poisonous prey.
Todays pic involves another illegal photoman moment... Driving down a road I noticed a #farm gate open and proceeded down the path. It was very late and noticed the #sun disappearing fast so I needed to find a spot to get a shot going.. The farm #dam was an obvious choice. While setting up a vehicle arrived and impolitely asked me to leave... Im pretty good at talking my way out of trouble, but not this day. The owner a female..... just saying... blew her lid and had me escorted off the farm. The #light unfortunatly beat me this time but I will try go back there one day cos I think there are a couple of options on the farm and Im sure she will be in a better mood if i ask beforehand😉
