This devotional from last night does right into the homework from our marriage counseling workbook for the next two weeks...what expectations do you bring to the marriage.
We all have "stuff" in our lives that make us who we are. We watch our parents, or lack thereof, and are influenced by the adults in our lives into the "roles " of a marriage.
Have you been honest with yourself? Your spouse? Have you taken the time to communicate the "that's your job" and "we always have this for (full in the blank)" expectations you have of yourself and of your spouse? If you haven't, maybe you should. Open the lines of communication and expectation, open the lines of honesty and trust that your spouse loves you for you, expectations that might not be met and all.
God communicates his love for us in many different ways, but one of them is through His expectations of us. Being vulnerable and communicating the same way God does with your mate and your family might be just what they need from you.
