It's the first time in a while since I last did another one of those GIMP projects.
My latest project is Gänge der Hypnose. I made this to represent the gear toys I used to play with as a kid, but most notably the Gearation from Tomy. If you don't know what that is, it's a magnetic gear toy that comes with 11 bright and colourful gears. To use, you set the big fat switches in the corners of the purple base to choose a speed and direction, and then you can choose a gear to serve as the driver to place over a pink motor in the center, then you interlock all the other gears and watch them do their thing. In addition to the standard set, there's also a refrigerator magnets set, John Deere sets, a Toonies set, and several other (older) expansions which are saught after.
After I created all the base gears, I then set the gears to motion blur to create the impression of them spinning. The time-lapse look of the final project is also a slight homage to a computer-generated program I used to watch on the Disney channel when I was a kid, whose intro features a gear train. The intro ends with the gears spinning at high speed and turning into the polka dots, and the central driver gear turns into the show's logo.
