Birthday dinner this weekend with @sommofthegram at @river_and_woods_boulder
We LOVED this restaurant! The wine we chose was a 2014 carménère from Terra Noble. Neill’s father had invested in part of the vineyard some time ago. He doesn’t any longer, but this was a familiar bottle for him. Personally, not my favorite. I’m working on beginning to expand my palate with South American wine since it’s not something I reach for often. This bottle was ok, I would drink it again to see how I’d like it the second time around but it’s not one I’ll crave. Neill really liked it though!
As for the pairing with the food, it was ok. We ordered a lemony spinach gnocchi and short rib braised in red wine. Wouldn’t suggest it for the gnocchi alone because of the lemon flavor but it complemented the short rib nicely. AMAZING food. Highly recommend the restaurant.
More specifics on the wine: it’s got a good amount of acidity to it. I believe this might actually be the first carménère I’ve had, so I don’t have much to compare to. I think it goes for around $17 or so in a store vs a restaurant. 90 points on @wineenthusiast website! Therefore a good value for the price point going off of that alone.
Has anyone else tried this wine? Perhaps a different year? Curious to hear other thoughts if you have any to share. Cheers!
