The ruins of the colosseum of Capua.
This is where the slave revolt instigated by Spartacus began in 73 BC. Spartacus was a gladiator who then became the leader of the rebellion.
The slave rebellion lasted 3 years until Magnus Crassus legions defeated Spartacus’s army. Pompey is given credit to ending the war but in actual fact it was Crassus. Pompey was able to steal the limelight by hunting down the remaining runaway slaves.
Both Pompey and Crassus were able to further their political career after the rebellion but history remembers Spartacus for being a leader, gladiator and freedom fighter. #spartacus #historymonday #yourewelcome
