I Love Christmas, but it's a double edged sword, it can also induce panic! Hence the need for affirmations today, to catch the fear before it catches me 😂 I am not what people consider wealthy. We, like Most people these days, live "hand to mouth" as they say, there's no savings to dive into. So when the Christmas season rocks up all a'glitter, the panic can happen! The thoughts creeping in of "o god, how the almighty fuck will I pay for all this!" Our kids are (thankfully) not greedy, he's only asking for 1 thing & a surprise, she's asking for 2 things and a surprise, so it's achievable. But as all parents know, these couple of items are more expensive the older your kids are! It might be 1 thing but it hits the very Pinnacle of your budget, sometimes exceeds it.
We put pressure on ourselves to go above & beyond, to have presents for everyone we bloody know, on top of being Santa, on top of having the lavish feast, the perfect decorations. Each year, we manage to pull it off, between finding the best deals, going to the cheapo shops, somehow making sure all the niece's & nephews have something from us,sometimes buying second hand, the neighbor kids get selection boxes, some yrs my partner & I have foregone presents for ourselves to ensure the kids get the best. Sure, there's no fucking money around til February, sometimes March, but we did it, we pulled off the epic day. & each year I wonder about those who didn't pull it off.
We have a wonderful Christmas, but we don't go as overboard as some. Last year I left most of the Christmas shopping to my partner, I didn't go Crazy trying to practically redecorate the house, I made a smaller, less gluttonous dinner than previous years, & guess what? It was nicer than any other Christmas. I did handmade gifts, less 'stocking fillers' which is code for "lots of little shit", everyone got smaller gifts than before, and everyone was still as content, surrounded by love, warmth & sparkle.
So this Christmas, don't worry about being Insta-perfect, stop & realise you already have Sooooo much. There are many without this Christmas, there are families wishing they could attain even 1% of that good fortune.
