#MCM: More Calder Mondays 💕✨ Couldn't resist cuddling up with this stunning #AlexanderCalder stabile at the @WhitneyMuseum the other day. While this work, "The Cock's Comb" from 1960, is part of the Whitney's permanent collection, the museum is currently hosting a fantastic exhibition of the artist's work that is definitely worth catching before it closes in October! Titled "Calder: Hypermobility," the exhibition focuses on the remarkable diversity and dazzling creativity of Calder's iconic mobiles and stabiles. Describing the inherent grace of the artist's sculpture (and particularly the black beauty behind me!), scholar Marla Prather describes: "The upright orientation of Calder’s freestanding sculpture and the beautifully curving silhouettes of its cut and bent forms underscore the new organic strain in Calder’s art, one that alludes to forms in the natural world without being tied specifically to any one of them.” 💫 My #MCM, any day.
