Day 10 of Summer of STEM challenge is R E L A X || I can guarantee that this is NOT happening today. I have my immunology final tomorrow so i'm going over everything.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like this all the time but when I have to put my big girl pants on I do.

On one of my earlier posts I mentioned how I love views. Well this one is from the Rose Garden at Woodland Zoo in Seattle. I can't wait to move here next year and take my yoga mat on the weekends and have a relaxing workout as well as pack a picnic and read a good book with a glass of wine.
-
Can't wait to see how you lovely (STEM) ladies relax and wind down. We can't always be on science mode.

Wish me luck on my test tomorrow!

If you put your mind to it, you can do it ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ

Day 8 of Summer of STEM is STEM!!! I found a great article that mentions 12 significant moments for women in SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING & MATH. Letโ€™s remember what Newton said, โ€œIf I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giantsโ€.

Enjoy!

We are nowhere close to where we want to be but iโ€™m glad thereโ€™s ladies like this and you that are helping this move in the right direction.

Thanks for tagging us, love this science selfie! We will be creating a whole suite of tips for science Instagrammers as a part of our research project exploring public perceptions of scientists who Instagram! Check us out at https://experiment.com/scientistselfies (link in bio), and starting Wed at 9am Eastern help us make this research possible! Backers will get special access to workshop materials on how to use Instagram for science communication more effectively! ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ”ฌ

Summer of STEM day 4 is PLAY๐Ÿ˜‰ . I love to explore new places and see new views. Iโ€™m a real sucker for a view but thatโ€™s maybe because Iโ€™m so short and canโ€™t see anything lol
-
Earlier this summer I visited Seattleโ€™s Pacific Science Center where I was able to put some of that fine physics knowledge to good use as I rode their high rail bike (with a killer backdrop of the space needle).
-
ย Hereโ€™s a quick explanation on how I was able to ride this bike with no handle bar and in heels without falling!
-
Gravity works on all objects, pressing down on every surface. But in all objects, there is a Center of Gravity that acts as a point where instead of applying all effects of gravity all over the object, you can just sum the forces of gravity and apply them at that point. This is what allows us to balance while walking, swimming, and biking.
-
The bike at the Pacific Science Center acts by shifting that center of gravity way, way, way below its normal height. What this means, is that the system created by the person and the bike, now has a balance point many feet below the pivot point of the rail, and no longer at a point above the bike. As this is the primary point on which gravity acts, it becomes nearly impossible to flip the bike over the rail! (Sure, you could still fall off if you jump off, but that is by removing yourself from the bike-person system and letting your own Center of Gravity take back over).

It doesnโ€™t take a Rocket Scientist to take a picture or explain, but sometimes it helps. Thank you @gottagotospace
