Double Tabata tonight - Ben picked the first set which consisted of: wall balls, jumping pull ups, dumbbell thrusters and toes to bar. Didn’t get a huge amount of reps (33 in round 1/35 in round 2) but surprised myself that the new (old in life but new for us from our generous and lovely @crossfitevolving friends) 7kg wall ball didn’t totally kill me. Then my Tabata was: abmat sit ups, kettlebell swings, burpees and kettlebell snatches. Managed 35 then 38 reps. It’s such a busy time of year - s’good to get quick workouts in when we don’t have time for nice long sessions. .

Loaded carries (Farmer carries, overhead carries, front rack carries, etc.) are some of my favorite movements to improve core strength, rotator cuff strength, and posture. I use both unilateral and bilateral carries with my athletes to clean up all kinds of dysfunctional patterns, and they can be safely implemented into any training program! Plus, a strong grip is always helpful 😜

You aren’t always going to have people around you to give you that extra push, to make you go faster or heavier than you normally would. I’m fortunate to have great coaches supporting me...who are there when I need them, but also know when to leave me with just my own thoughts so I can push MYSELF past my comfort zone. “Far from what I once was, but not yet what I’m going to be.” These are a few photos from my first #CrossFit competition over the weekend. There’s just something about competition that brings out a fire... to be better for myself, for my team, for the competition so that they’re competing against the best version of me. Last week, I finally got DUs and PR’d at 34. Turns out I didn’t have to do ONE in the comp but I’m better for it. And I can’t string my T2B together (yet) but that didn’t end up mattering either. Plus, I hate you AND love you, Assault Bike. I’m hooked, can’t wait til the next one and now even more driven to see what I’m capable of. 📸 credit: @bfouard

Got to try out a different crossfit gym today. Wasn't far from my parents, so that was nice! Currently awaiting my fate at the dentist's office (heh.... Heh... *nervous laughter*), so enjoy some snippets of today. We were told to test our 1RM on snatches and clean and jerks. Pushed my mental boundaries hard today on snatches. I was afraid to get a heavy weight over my head! Had to give myself a minute, but I eventually got an 80# power snatch! Wooooo! 😊 I got an 85# clean and jerk, but ran out of time to test much higher. I think I probably can do a little more there. Less of a mental boundary blocking me. The people at #crossfitloto were super kind and very welcoming, for which I'm very thankful as I'm kind of shy sometimes. Their #wod was pretty knarly (8 deadlifts, 20 DU, 8 power cleans, 20 DU, 8 push jerks, 20 DU). I started at 85 aaaaaaaand quickly dropped to 65 # as that was rough and I was pressed for time! 😂

Turns out I'm getting fillings today and tomorrow you guys. Wish me luck. 😨

Grunt work today. Lots of sled pushes. I challenged myself with 70 kilos (155lbs). Did some hard power cleans too and pushed myself at 40 kilos (88lbs). Had to modify 150 wall balls because I get migraines so I got to do 150 bench presses with a 15 kilo bar. My arms are dead. 2016 —> 2017! This year has been filled with obstacles that easily could have derailed my health and fitness. Moving states, living at home, moving to our own apt, readjusting to office life, putting my body through marathon training, tons of travel, etc. But I’m so proud that even through all the ups and downs of 2017 I still came out with progress. I wasn’t perfect by any means but I have finally mastered the 80/20 healthy lifestyle. Not dieting, or tricking my body into ketosis, or doing weird teatoxes or anything else.. just straight up real, true clean eating + exercise.
