Where does confidence come from? Can we find it in a book, in others, in ourselves?
There are 3 main places where we can find real confidence.
1. Confidence comes from past success - This is the biggest source of confidence we can pull from. It's as simple as saying "I've done it before so I can do it again". Whether it's scoring a goal, nailing a routine, or delivering a strong performance in another way, reminding yourself that you have successfully accomplished the task before will give you confidence in the now.
2. Feedback from trusted peers - Reflecting on positive feedback from people we trust such as coaches or teammates can help us feel validated in our abilities. It may not be as strong a source of confidence as experience, but it is definitely still a good booster for your belief in yourself.
3. Vicarious experience - We don't always have the luxury of drawing on previous experience or positive feedback. When we don't, sometimes seeing others accomplish what we are trying to accomplish can give us the belief that we can do it too.
