Union Jack stamper US pressing. I don't know how other pressings compare, but this is a looong album, cut very quietly to fit everything on there. If the original masters are any good at all, this could certainly benefit from being split into two discs at higher volume. Very clean copy though. #gerryrafferty#citytocity#vinyl#vinylcommunity

So cool being on "the tube." Subways are usually kind of boring, but in London, The Underground has a personality. I can't imagine going to London and not riding it or a double decker bus! I don't know what sticks out in my mind more when I think of Baker Street. Gerry Rafferty or Sherlock Holmes?
Way down the street there's a light in his place He opens the door, he's got that look on his face And he asks you where you've been You tell him who you've seen And you talk about anything He's got this dream about buying some land He's gonna give up the booze and the one-night stands And then he'll settle down In some quiet little town And forget about everything But you know he'll always keep moving You know he's never gonna stop moving 'Cause he's rolling, he's the rolling stone And when you wake up, it's a new morning The sun is shining, it's a new morning And you're going, you're going home
Winding your way down on Baker Street Light in your head and dead on your feet Well, another crazy day You'll drink the night away And forget about everything This city desert makes you feel so cold It's got so many people, but it's got no soul And it's taken you so long To find out you were wrong When you thought it held everything You used to think that it was so easy You used to say that it was so easy But you're trying, you're trying now Another year and then you'd be happy Just one more year and then you'd be happy But you're crying, you're crying now
Primarily remembered for #bakerstreet - and what a record to be remembered for, #gerryrafferty released several great albums in the course of twenty-five years*, but my favorite track is still #rightdowntheline. For reasons lost to time, in the US the master tape was speeded up a smidge, creating a bit more urgency that makes the tongue-tied chorus more poignant. *shameless self promotion: yours truly wrote the liner notes for the #vareseserabande compilation of Rafferty's work, which sounds amazing - with single mixes & b-sides not found elsewhere - and beautiful art direction by #billpitzonka. Check it out! #unitedartistsrecords#1978
