I want give a BIG thank you to Citrus College for sharing my work with Sierra continuation high school (my high school.) Many of you know how difficult this road has been for Me from losing my parents, to caring for my siblings, to losing them, dealing with homelessness, and picking myself up from failure after failure.
I want to dedicate everything I have accomplished to those that are still fighting. To my classmates who passed away due to street violence, to my friends who had children while they were children themselves, my siblings who are working hard to finish their education with their own struggles, to my friends who are caught in the prison system and in the cycle of gang violence this is for you.
I decided that I would not become a statistic, I decided I would fight against all odds to accomplish my dreams even when nothing seemed to be in my favor, and I want you all to know that it is never to late, you don't have to be a statistic. Only I know all of the hardships and the pain I have had to endure and only you know yours, but your will to fight and accomplish your dreams has to be bigger than all of the baggage that tries to hold us down.
Five years ago graduating from community college and attending a four year university only seemed like a distant dream, but now it is my reality. UCSC is my reality, and someday Georgetown Law will be My reality, and I will continue giving back to Sierra continuation because contrary to belief continuation school students like myself are worth investing in💖
