More pattern inspiration - As you can probably guess, my obsession with Mughal architecture runs deep. My Dad grew up in Agra, so some of my earliest memories in life are of spending time at these incredible monuments while visiting relatives. Probably also influenced my path to architecture school.
This is one of the most beautiful examples of Mughal architecture - the tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah. Commissioned by Empress Nur Jahan for her father, this marble mausoleum is a precious little jewel-box like no other. The carvings and exquisite inlay of semi-precious stones cover every inch of the exterior. Built between 1622-1628, it inspired the Taj and its ornamentation may be even more beautiful. Love.
