VARIGLOG DC-10-30F PP-VQY - GRU - April 2007
Talking about the last of a kind. This was the last DC-10 added to VARIG's fleet. Already with VARIG LOG's name. The cargo division of VARIG, previously known as VARIG Carga, then VARIG Cargo. VQY was one of the five second-hand DC-10's VARIG added to the fleet.
VARIG LOG operated 727-100F, 727-200F, 737-400F, 757-200F, DC-10-30F and MD-11F during its lifetime. At some point, it became completely independent from VARIG and VRG (Nova Varig and Gol) in an effort to financially save the company. Unfortunately, these efforts were not effective and VARIG LOG also shut down operations, in 2012.
Trivia: The DC-10 was the first widebody airplane ever registered in Brazil. PP-VMA and VMB from VARIG in 1974. The second widebody type was the Airbus A300B4 from Cruzeiro, PP-CLA in 1980. The Boeing 747-200 would come only in the beginning of 1981.
VARIG operated the DC-10-30 in pax version until 2000, when they were either withdrawn from use or converted to freighter. Some of them were painted in the new colors of VARIG (the 1996 colour scheme). VARIG and divisions operated 15 in total.
