“The challenge and opportunity of innovation is leverage appropriate processes and tools that allow you to truly understand the multifaceted nature of people’s struggles, challenges, assets and needs so you can respond to them effectively within that rich complexity.“ I am reflecting today on the incredible discussions, diverse perspectives, interesting tools and practical challenges that we all immersed ourselves into at Care Canada’s Innovation Day.
There is so much to say but the message I want to share today is that: at its heart, Innovation is about making people’s lives substantively better. This in turn requires being comfortable with and engaging in the complexities of human realities. Too often development guidelines, procedures, processes and models try to simplify problems and therefore develop irrelevant solutions.
When supporting clients in their equality and inclusion work, we examine this paradox and how it shows up in their own work and then we co-create the skills, tools and processes to work with that complexity and develop solutions that are grounded in reality and that respond to diverse needs effectively.
