Was so excited to find a #gastropod at @presquilepp I sat down beside my son while he was having a blast throwing rocks into #lakeontario and there it was. From looking into this type of #fossil further I found out that it was formed by sediment filling the shell and then fossilizing while the shell has since broken away. So it is a mould as apposed to a fossilized shell. It is likely from the #cenozoic era and the #neogene period and the #miocene epoch meaning that it is anywhere from 5.33-23.3million years old!! 😮🐚 Amazing to think about the short life of the mollusc creature who formed this shell, and now millions of years later it has been preserved by the pressure of the glacier, that once covered almost all of Canada, and I can hold it in my hand. Oldest thing I've ever found that's for sure! #miocenefossils#miocenefossilshells#presuileprovincialpark#fossilfind PS if you are a big #fossilnerd reading this and have more/better info on this then I'd love to hear it! Thanks.
