The Top 5 things I learned in the first 6 weeks of being an Entrepreneur⠀

1. If you don't make a schedule, you will work everyday, all day.⠀📆

2. You get to work from anywhere 👆🏻#viewsfromthe6ix

3. Everyday is an opportunity to come face-to-face with your beliefs about what you are capable of doing.⠀💪🏻

4. You are in full control of the opportunities you decide to go after. FULL. CONTROL. 🤳

5. It's hella scary, exciting, invigorating, challenging, fulfilling and fear-inducing all at the same time.⠀😍

Imagine you come to Canada, can’t find a job as a foreign trained doctor and your first job is selling gas contracts from door to door. That was my dad 20 years ago. I was 18, he was 47.⠀
✨⠀
Fast forward to the beginning of 2018 when he finally sold his veterinary practice after 14 years in operations. However, when he was setting up his practice as a new immigrant back then he had no clue about all the hoops, hurdles and requirements of the Canadian business environment. Many mistakes were made that were very costly to fix during the sale of his business. ⠀
✨⠀
These mistakes, have put his retirement in jeopardy. My mom and dad will have to sell their home in order to supplement whatever is left from their nest egg.⠀
✨⠀
THIS is the reason I decided to do something about it. We are living proof that immigrant entrepreneurs bring so much to the economy of our adopted country - imagine how much more we can bring to the table if there are more support systems in place to help us navigate the Canadian business environment and encourage us to scale up. ⠀
✨⠀
Throughout the last month I have met new immigrant health nutritionists, accountants, photographers, marketers, designers, architects and more - all with a dream of one day becoming business owners in Canada. All smart. All driven. And all as equally confused as we were 20 years ago. I am doing my bit to help stop that confusion and help one aspiring immigrant entrepreneur at a time.⠀
✨⠀
Until it’s my time to scale up and bring this support platform digitally (working on it!), knock on my door, tap my back, send me a message, give me a call. I will do my darn best to make sure you feel you are not alone and help you be more strategic about developing your business idea and bring it to fruition. ⠀
✨⠀
Do you have a business idea? Comment below - doesn’t matter how big or small. Anything is possible!⠀

Been working hard the last few months writing an e-book/resource for aspiring Canadian immigrant entrepreneurs. Today I’m just doing the aesthetic finishing touches! This should launch soon, along with my new site. Excited to release a document that will help new Canadians navigate the hurdles of becoming a business owner. Double tap if you would find this resource useful! ✅ #ebook #ebookwriting

In my down time, I love to dream BIG. This Sunday calls for downtime. Which means it calls for dreaming a future of endless possibilities. And who knows? One of those dreams may come true so long there’s passion, work, grit and persistence. Dream big my fiends. Dream. Big. #happysunday #dreambig

I sat on a panel discussion yesterday at @lsparkglobal with a ridiculously inspiring forum of fellow women entrepreneurs. ⠀
✨⠀
I have to admit I was honoured but equally shocked (and intimidated) at the fact that @erinblaskie had knocked on my door and graciously invited me to be part of this panel. I was the only panelist with a brick and mortar business structure as opposed to the rest of the super savvy and successful women in #saas - something I’m in the very early stage of my new startup. ⠀
✨⠀
“What can I bring to the table in a group of tech-oriented business women?” “I don’t really belong in this panel” “Does @erinblaskie realize what I do has very little to do with Saas?” All of these and many other negative and anxiety-inducing voices started creeping in. However, a frase stood out from the first group of panelists “If I can see her, I can be her,” meaning that the only way we can cause change and inspire others to follow their dreams and break the glass ceiling is by delivering our message and encouraging others that they can do it too. ⠀
✨⠀
After our panel was finished I got to interact with many women in the audience that are also immigrants and either have their own businesses already or want to start one. They genuinely hugged me and thanked me for inspiring them. Little do they know how much THEIR words impacted ME. How quickly their hugs and handshakes erased the insecurities I felt going in. ⠀
✨⠀
If I can inspire or resonate with one person in an audience filled with women in high tech (as a brick-and-mortar entrepreneur) then my efforts and not listening to that negative talk was well worth it. It’s crazy how we can be our own biggest obstacle sometimes. Glad I took a chance and swivelled through. ✨⠀
Have you ever felt those insecurities? How did you swivel them? 🌪

The dream is free. The hustle is sold separately.

This literally describes the life of being a boss babe.
A few years ago I decided that there was an opportunity to launch an event planning business in Northern BC. I have taken multiple courses, started up my event planning company Mosaic Regal Events, all through a move and working two additional jobs to stay afloat.
It has been the hardest, best, scariest, proud couple of years and I’ve learned so much about being a business owner and about myself.

In just under a year and a half I have doubled my sales and I hope that my name continues to grow! Words cannot begin to express how thankful I am for everyone who has given me a chance to prove my worth and support my dream. How thankful I am to have amazing friends and family supporting me and encouraging me to expand and continue to follow my passion and for those who will give up their weekends and time to help me with events at a moments notice. I wouldn’t be where I am without any of you! 🖤

You can spend your whole life dreaming about what you want in life. There’s nothing wrong with having a million dreams but remember unless you work hard to make them happen that’s all they’ll remain. So hustle hard my boss ladies & gents!

"The game was to drop off the idea to four or five competitive banks and lenders, but then when we met with Meridian they wanted to build a strong community and that was exactly our vision." My grandmother (pictured right) was born in a very poor family in Colombia. She immigrated to Mexico as part of a bullfighting crew when she was only 15 years old. She left her home country due to abuse from her step father - dreaming of a better life. Quickly she learned the tools of the trade and became Mexico’s first “rejoneadora” (bullfighter who rides horseback during a fight and spears the bull with lances). She would fill bullfighting rinks with fans traveling only to see “Carmela, la rejoneadora.” She then became a professional dancer in the ‘50’s film industry golden era. She became a single mother and stayed single raising three strong women. Eventually she found entrepreneurship and opened up her own clothing distribution and retailing company. She always had this can-do-will-do thing to her. She was a tough lady, but a savvy business woman. Her products were among the first thing “I” sold as a kid. I used to go with her on purchasing trips to South America and the US. She is now an immigrant to Canada where she can finally enjoy a quiet life. This woman raised my super mom. And only recently I realized how big of an influence she’s been in my life. Happy Mother’s Day to Carmela. A fierce woman who is “Mom” “Dad” “Boss” and everything in between.

Taking time to read this in the sunshine. Amazing book for anyone looking to bring changes in any industry. #blueoceanshift #greatread #whatiread #feedmybrain #entrepreneur #entrepreneurlife
