Early birthday post because I wanted to be one of the first to wish one of my best friends a HAPPY 25th BIRTHDAY! I’m so proud of how hard you have been working. At the young age of 25, this girl already has her master’s degree and is in her first year of dental school! •

So have a happy birthday boss babe! Hope you get a break from “hell-tober” to kick back and relax. You deserve it 😘

Conquered pulmonology oral finals & still breathing 🤓

It's my first week of work (unofficially)! Which means since my credentialing STILLL is not through the system I literally cannot touch a patient. But honestly it's nice just to be back in the field surrounded by like minded medical peeps & talking nerdy again. 🤓
••
My schedule is mon-wed-fri in the OR, and tues-thurs in clinic..... can it get any better?!? Anyway, if you are still reading I highly encourage ANYONE, even if you're not in the medical field, to find what you love and DO IT! I was hesitant to specialize right out of school... but then I thought to myself, why would I want to do anything else other than ortho? I LOVE ORTHO. & always have. So I did it. And I don't regret a thing. ☺️
••
One other HUGE factor that goes into figuring out what job suits you is taking into consideration how your personality will mesh with your supervising doc and other providers you will be working with. You may love what you do, but if you don't have a team that supports you, it can be miserable. Lucky for me I have AMAZING mentors who are walking me through it all. Feeling grateful, blessed, loved, etc. 🙏🏻💕

So proud to work with people as awesome as @myparesource ・・・
A message from our founder, @erchiefpa:
Last week I had the opportunity to spend a few days in San Juan, Puerto Rico and got to see firsthand the devastation that is impacting the island. Words cannot express the struggle the people of PR are facing today, almost a month since the hurricane destroyed most of the island. I met people who have gone nearly 4 weeks without power, running water, and hot meals. But the most incredible aspect of meeting these people was the strength and resilience of their community as a whole. Not one person I met complained about their circumstances and nearly every conversation ended with “we are going to rebuild” with a smile on their face. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need help. When I left 90% of the island was still without power and about 45% without running water. And regardless of where you stand politically, these people are still very much desperate for assistance. •

• And that’s why we’ve decided to donate profits generated from @myparesource to organizations aiding our brothers and sisters in #puertorico. And while we are fortunate to have the means and opportunity to help provide relief, we encourage you to do the same. Organizations like @worldvisionusa and @ccharitiesusa are very active in the recovery process and have proven track records of distributing donations rather than taking large portions out to benefit themselves. Every little bit helps. Let’s get them back on their feet. •

Getting to interact with you all both over social and at the expo was an incredible opportunity to say the least... Truthfully, I love what I do and I’m blessed that I get to share this lifestyle with you all. Who’s ready for more #TakeOvers? 👻

I wrote my masters thesis on the affects your gut microbiota have on your health. There's a lot that still needs to be learned about our gut flora, but we do know that we want to keep the good bacteria around. Unfortunately, antibiotics don't only kill the bad bacteria and we need the good bacteria for our immune system and overall health. There are actually studies that show that our good gut flora can even help with mental health and improve depression. So make sure if you do need antibiotics, take them as prescribed and don't take them if not needed! If you don't finish the course prescribed your body can develop resistance and then the antibiotic will no longer work if needed in the future...and can cause what we call "super bugs" or bacteria that is resistant to everything...it really is a terrifying thought!! 😱#antibioticresistance #takeprobiotics #goodbacteria #myhalloweencostume #medicalhumor

"In medicine, uncertainty is the water we swim in." I've enjoyed listening to my new book on the way to work today. 📚 🐛🤓👩🏻‍⚕️What are you reading?

Loved tonight’s episode of Call The Midwife as they went to South Africa for a few weeks. I absolutely love this show because it reminds me of how much I’m thankful to have now (modern medicine!) but also how much I look forward to giving back to my community! —👩🏻‍⚕️⚜️

"RepostBy @overcomingtheoddsbook: awesome way to learn on how to read a chest X-ray in 30 seconds or less!

A: Airway. Look at the airway. It should be midline. Tumors, tension pneumothorax, large pneumonias, foreign objects can displace it

B: Bone: look for fractures in the ribs, shoulder girdle, any bony tumors, missing bones?

C: Cardiac: A good rule is the diameter of heart should be less than 50% of the diameter of the thorax. Unclear borders could suggest a lobe consolidation

D: Diaphragm. The right diaphragm should be 2-3cm higher than the left because of the liver. There should be sharp borders and no fluid which would indicate a pleural effusion

E: Everything else: Look for vascular markings all the way out to the periphery. Look for tumors, areas of consolidation

Happy Tuesday! Today we had our first interprofessional educational experience, or IPE, and it was an awesome way for us to communicate and work with other students in the health professions at our school! We had MDs, Pharm-Ds, PAs, and DPT students work together in taking care of a patient in an emergency situation! Although a lot of us were very nervous, it was a great opportunity for us to see the roles of everyone in the healthcare field. -------------------------------------------
As someone that is 4'11, I've always had a hard time dressing my age and finding cute professional outfits! Ann Taylor, Loft and J. Crew petite have become my go to! Any one else have any suggestions?! Feel free to DM me ☺️. 📷: @carleefreed

Balance: a simple idea, but a complex task. Too often I find myself forgetting to bring balance into my life. Finding a balance between school, health, boyfriend, family, friends, oh, and me-time, has been as difficult as it sounds. What has worked for me is well, first knowing what and who my priorities are. Second, learning a schedule/balance that works for me and NOT straying from it. If it works, why change it? (I learned this one the hard way) and lastly, listening to my mind and body.
Work hard, but find your balance.
