19th this past Sunday in the XC at MSA. It was not the race I wanted but in the end I gave it my all, start to finish. The dirt on my body tells the real story… --- This is the story that I want to tell:
A year ago, I thought my dream of returning to MTB was over. I had made the switch to road in 2017, but was dreaming of coming back to MTB and pouring myself into my olympic dreams. I drove up to MSA with big hopes for my first and only MTB event of 2017. It was also my last race as a U23. I crashed hard in training and got my second consecutive concussion that summer. I was heart broken not to be able to start. I drove home a bit dejected and uncertain of where to go from there. I feel like the luckiest racer ever, because one year later, I am racing in the mix (sometimes) during my first-ever MTB World Cup season for the team I’ve dreamt of being on since I was a teenager. ✨ We underestimate what we can do in a year ✨ As many of you know, I have chosen to decline my start spot for the World Championships to focus on CX, which made Mont Sainte Anne my final race of the season. I want to say thank you to my team @trekfactoryracingxc + our sponsors, the amazing staff, my teammates, my fans and support network for making this dream a reality and supporting me through all of the ups and downs. I started the season with no ranking — outside of the top 1,000 — and as of today am ranked 103rd in the World. In the end, I went from 57th in Albstadt, to 39th in Nove Mesto, to 16th in Val Di Sol, to 32nd in Andorra and now 19th in MSA. This was a season of reconnaissance, of getting my sea legs in this new discipline, and of learning to trust the process more than ever and believe in my self more than I ever have. I am filled with so.much.love for this blessing to do what I love every day and am more motivated than ever for year 2 with Trek Factory Racing and our fantastic partners who make it possible. One year ago to now. Oh, how things can change if you believe. As always, #justagirlwhodecidedtogoforit.
Now, lets race some cyclocross. #cxiscoming
