My shot submitted to MR Style magazine was published today. I am very delighted as it marks a life achievement for myself. The theme is “Home”. To these ethnic minorities, home is definitely an ambiguous concept, lacking a solid sense of belonging and strong identity of a HKer. From the capture, perhaps they have hope on this place, but they are still les étrangers to us the local people. A humanity call demands us to accept them, in fact our norm seems not to fit into this agenda.
Where, then is their home?
I’m not whining as sometimes people judge my captions in this way. I believe there’s more beyond the physical character of a photo, carrying deeper meaning. I will rather say judgment better come after any attempt of understanding. Cause audience never can truly grasp the emotion of the photographer. All the bystanders’ analysis, despite how close, are just based on assumptions.
