This one is definitely a bizarre one but I love this album so much! The lineup on this debut album that spawned an entire subculture is nuts! Too Poetic, RZA (Wu-Tang), Frukwan( Stetsasonic), and Prince Paul (De La Soul, Stetsasonic) make up The Gravediggaz. This pilot album dealing largely with subjects of death, torture, suicide and the afterlife is complimented so perfectly by Prince Paul and RZA's horror, Halloween style production. The whole album leaves you a little on edge and uncomfortable but it is so beautifully dark you feel similar to being part of The Adams Family. The album also touches largely on social context and black America. Though I wasn't a fan of the cover art initially it definitely grew on me once I gave the album a proper listen then understood that it goes along with the music all too well!
What I like about these guys is that they take a subject like death and speak so openly abut it without the stigma that is often around the topic. They find comfort in an uncomfortable area while leaving your neck hairs standing on end.
