More treetops as long as 20 feet came flying across the field at around 30mph, spearing the ground all around us like javelins as I instinctively covered my head, hoping one wouldn’t spear me. It was like we were in some kind of hurricane/tornado hybrid, a situation that could make your stomach turn. -
If anyone has crashed in powder, you know how difficult it is to get back up and get your momentum going again. I debated whether it was risker to run for it and hope to not get stabbed in the back by a soaring treetop, or to stay put... and hope to not get stabbed in the back by a soaring treetop... I quickly decided I wasn’t hanging around to find out.
Now, freezing cold and profusely sweating at the same time, shaking with adrenaline and a confused body temperature, feeling ridiculously vulnerable to the elements as I muscled my way back onto my feet, I uncharacteristically and uncontrollably screamed, “GET US OFF THIS MOUNTAIN!” -
