Astoria, Oregon, was once a popular location for movie shoots. Free Willy, Kindergarten Cop, and The Goonies were all filmed there, and the house the kids had to save from foreclosure with “One Eyed Willy’s gold” still stands there today.
Except the current tenant of The Goonies shack is not so keen on its legacy. “The man who lives there now is very hostile to anyone walking anywhere near the house,” reads one online Roadtrippers review. “The small donation box that used to be there and the sign that said foot traffic was accepted are long gone.” Visitors were once welcome to check out the house in the famous Goon Docks area of Astoria that was threatened to be demolished for a country club, but its current resident is hell-bent on ruining your childhood. “When we got halfway up the drive leading to all the houses on the hill … he came out on his porch to shout at us. We explained that we were there to see [another] house for sale, and he told us to go straight to the house, i.e. don't stop and take pictures.” Goonies never say die… but this guy? He's saying "Steer clear!" #Astoria #Goonies #FreeWilly #Oregon
