Yoga should never cause pain but sometimes you need to find the egde to make a difference.
Pigeon Pose is therapy for the body, a deep massage and essential for melting away tightness through the lower body. Practicing this stretch consistently should start to have a significant impact on your flexibility through the buttocks, hips and legs which will not only improve your practice but benefit you throughout daily life.
It’s so good at isolating those muscles that if done correctly it should give you a bitter sweet sensation through your areas of tightness or the edge as I like to refer to it.
The subtle difference between pleasure and pain where you start to progress and make changes to your body.
Use the position of the front leg to achieve the ultimate stretch and then actively twist and turn your pelvis to guide you and help you find your sweet spot. You can lower your body to the floor over your front leg to go even further. With the floor and your upper body as a support you can really use this pose to gain maximum stretch whilst knowing you’re safely grounded.
Try holding it for a minute then building up as you become stronger and more flexible.
Yoga should never cause pain but find those sore, tight areas and work into them. There maybe some discomfort but use your breath to help you. Why is our breathe so important? The secret to wellbeing could be learning to breathe properly.
When we breathe consciously our brain is activated and awakened.
Slowing down your breath has a soothing effect on your emotions and nervous system.
Try conscious belly breathing using your diaphragm rather than your chest for a deeper breathing experience and feel the benefits.
Here’s how... • Close your eyes and get yourself into comfortable position (seated with a straight back or laying flat on your back) •Start to breathe and put one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen over your belly button •As you breathe notice whether it’s the hand which is over your chest or the hand over your belly that is rising? Try and make your abdomen rise instead of your chest •Now count to 4 and completely focus your attention on allowing the belly to rise when breathing in. Try and hold your breath for 7 then let your belly fall naturally as you breathe out for 8. Try to relax your body and stomach muscles completely during each round of breathing •Practice for at least two minutes morning and night
