•MUSICIAN SPOTLIGHT• •DANIEL MASSEY•
Daniel Massey was born in Edmonds, Washington, before moving to LA where he has since resided. Loving music from an early age, he would eventually graduate from air guitar in the mirror, to trumpet, then to a real guitar. He performed in his Hoover High's Jazz ensemble and was a recipient of several soloist awards during his time there. Switching to bass before attending PCC, Daniel began a serious study of jazz in its many forms, and other rich genres of music. He continued this study at CSUN under the tutelage of Gary Pratt. Here he held the bass chair in the prestigious Jazz A Band, with whom he toured Europe and played in various local festivals. These include the Montery Jazz Festival in which he placed among the top 3 small group ensembles both years he attended, and the Playboy Jazz Fest at the Hollywood Bowl.
Daniel has performed with various jazz artists around town and abroad such as Anthony Strong, Nick Mancini and Katisse Buckingham, as well as burgeoning young contemporaries Adam Hersh, Shai Golan, and Victor San Pedro, among many others. His musical influences are wide, also recording and touring the east coast with alternative artist Koda, with whom he will soon be collaborating on his next record.
Daniel's playing is characterized by a deep sensitivity and a bold disposition that finds him always seeking to push the limits of the music, while remaining as true to the moment as he can. •03.25.18•
