“Early in my career I started making drawings that incorporated the movement of the body. I like to think of it as an engraving of my bodies movement. The drawing that appears is a vestige of where my body has been.
.
Around this time I was really into aesthetics. I was studying the Situationists, Guy Debord and the Frankfurt School of thought. It got me thinking about who is the subject in society and what their role is. I wanted to explore how the body is an instrument of society and what it’s limits are - physical and social. So I started to explore these ideas by using my body as an instrument of my work.
.
I like to say that my work is not trying to create narratives, but that the work is the narrative itself. The experience of me putting myself into it is the work. It’s not the paper that is framed in the gallery. It’s the experience of doing it that is the work. The drawing is just the final form.”

It was wonderful talking with São Paulo based artist Carla Chaim (@carlachaim) a few weeks ago. In her wide ranging body of work, she explores themes of movement, space, bodies and interventions between the three. Her work will be shown at an upcoming show opening May 11th in Venice for as part of a group of artists nominated for the Future Generation Art Prize.

Now more than ever, the #FrankfurtSchool

It is truly amazing how much #CulturalMarxism has degraded #society from when the Tribe invented it at the #FrankfurtSchool. And, it's only getting more influential by the day and year.

"Not that there is no distress. Terrible movements, laws that underpin and organize tragedy and genocide, gods that present themselves in the guise of death and destitution, monsters lying in wait, corpses coming and going on the tide, infernal powers, threats of all sorts, abandonments, events without response, monstrous couplings, blind waves, impossible paths, terrible forces that every day tear human beings, animals, plants, and things from their sphere of life and condemn them to death: all these are present. But what is missing, far from the dead ends, random observations, and false dilemmas (Afrocentrism vs. Africanism), is any sign of radical questioning. For what Africa as a concept calls fundamentally into question is the manner in which social theory has hitherto reflected on the problem (observable also elsewhere) of the collapse of worlds, their fluctuations and tremblings, their about-turns and disguises, their silences and murmurings. Social theory has failed also to account for time as lived, not synchronically or diachronically, but in its multiplicity and simultaneities, its presence and absences, beyond the lazy categories of permanence and change beloved of so many historians." #achillembembe #onthepostcolony

"Control is not discipline. You do not confine people with a highway. But by making highways, you multiply the means of control. I am not saying this is the only aim of highways, but people can travel infinitely and ‘freely’ without being confined while being perfectly controlled. That is our future.” #deleuze #tworegimesofmadness

that feel when you realize we're not postmodern because we're past modernity or further along some axiological sense of progression. we're postmodern because those distinctions, which were always linear or temporal for modernity, no longer have meaning for us. #liberatorypostmodernism #reenchantmentofconsumption #criticaltheory #frankfurtschool #fridayvibes #literacyisoverrated
