Another object from the estate of Anne Frank’s family: While Anne’s father Otto emigrated with his family from Frankfurt to Amsterdam, her cousin Buddy Elias moved with his family to Basel/Switzerland. It was him who painted this Happy Families card game with members of his relatives, every one of them defined by a characteristic or attribute. One of the cards shows Anne Frank who her cousin calls a “thug” [Strolch].
In 2012 the Anne Frank Fund Basel and its president Buddy Elias consigned to the Jewish Museum Frankfurt the estate (paintings, photographs, memorabilia and furniture) of the family of Anne Frank and established the Family Frank Centre. These objects will form a significant part of our new permanent exhibition that opens in 2019.
